My V8V is going in for its first annual service shortly. I have a list of smallish issues for the delaer to look at while its there.

One issue that I've asked them to look at is the appalling radio reception. It's particularly bad on Radio 4 but does affect all stations to some degree.

Has anyone else experienced this and was there a cure?

Have you experienced the strange vibration/shudder through the steering column when going over bumpy roads?

Have had a V8 coupe since Oct 06, it's an 07 model year and I got fed up asking the dealer to do something about the radio reception.... particularly R4... driving round the M25 it was as if the signal was just coming and going. I was told that the issue is linked to the poor conductivity and earthing in the car, many of the joints being glued as opposed to welded and was advised that it was a known problem and a solution often used was to run a wire. I did not have this done. I note that the new V8s now have the ariel in the front screen although I guess this is of little help to you. Me well the Coupe has just been traded and I pick up a new roadster on saturday morning so be interesting to see what the radio is like!

I drove a couple of demo models before I got mine and one of them did have a bit of play in the steering. I did hear from a couple of people at an AM event that individual cars do have this 'feature'. Mine doesn't fortunately.

It came back from the service with some nonsense about the steering column being connected directly blah, rather than via a bush blah, Then I fell asleep.

Oh, and the crap radio reception is apparently not fixable either rolleyes

Is it like something metal slapping against the steering column? You sort of feel it rather than hear it?

That's not a bad description although over a really bad surface you can hear it too.

Radio reception is bad on the DB9 too. Hoping my new one will get a getter signal.

Yep, I notice it most over bumps. Especially where they paint those thick lines on the road when aproaching round-abouts and the like. Anyone know what it is?

Exactly, "rumble stips" are where it is worst.

Doesn't sound right to me.

Mine doesn't make any more noise than any other car in these circumstances.

Oh I agree, but the level of nonsense from the dealer is pathetic.

I'll call Aston themselves on Tuesday. I'm not holding my breath though.

The 06 cars did this, I mentioned it at first service, it was a known problem and fixed.

Exactly, "rumble stips" are where it is worst.

Mine is an 07 car so it's obviously not been fixed at the point of manufacture.

Do you know what they did?

Purely in the interests of science I tested Radio 4 on my car the other day.

Wasn't perfect (bit of hiss), but could listen to it OK. I did notice it got worse the closer I got into London, and the radio wouldn't stay locked on to the best available frequency for R4. I put this down to the amount of other stations cramming R4's broad frequency range and got around it, to an extent, by manually tuning in (press and hold the left or right button, then you can tweak it manually).

In the interests of my sanity, however, I won't be repeating the experiment. I suffered someone moaning about immigrants for 15mins, and then learnt all there is to know about bunions and other odd ailments from the phone in doctor. Perhaps the poor performance on R4 is a ruse by Aston to preserve your sanity and prevent people suffering narcolepsy at the wheel?

You see, living in the frozen North, we don't have the same proliferation of hangin' with the kids FM stations playing bangin' tunes that you southern sophisticates have. Translation, we have less ste to filter out.

Notwithstanding that, it seems that you have now endured the same high quality FM experience that is Aston's version of FM radio.

Word.tongue out

For my sins I tend to only listen to R2, BBC London, LBC and R1. Reception on those is fine. And when I'm not on those the CD players on or the whole thing is off (often).
