Too true mate, but over the years I have been educating the wife that cars need a thrashing or they will break, and I think I have her sold on that! Although having thrashed an M5 and an RS4 recently, if I did that too often I would be locked up and they would throw away the key, the M5 is an absolute monster!
Wise man, I can learn from you!Sooo back to business lets forget what comes after the AMV8 & start choosing your Mrs's next wheels, you are going the wrong way with the M5/RS4, adding speed but reducing driver interaction, so let's have the brief & we can start choosing !!
P.S. 997 GT3's eat Scuds for breakfast!!

Must be able to get two baby seats in the back, and a boot for all the baby stuff. So no more fun agile toys for the missus, she has had Elise, MX5, Boxster, Audi S3 over the years but now realises that she needs a barge!Grant3 said:

Now I doubt that!sadlerj said:

get her the new M3, maybe even the folding metal roof version. Just sold mine after six months and enjoyed it hugely. It'll do all above tasks, it's luxurious and safe AND can have an 'edge' and be great fun when you need it to be. Also (whisper it) it's a tad quicker than the Aston - and a 997S.
Yer there is a M3 Touring coming out soon, I've also been sniffing at a 335i Touring sort of mini/cheap M3 Touringsadlerj said:

Can't remember what the torque fig is but it makes an M5 look weedy I seem to remember. Very subtle and very very quick.

@ Grant: why not the GT3 RS ? that was the only option if i ever buy a Porsche again....
Hi Angel, still enjoying the AMV8? Did you get the roadster in the end?Why not the RS, several reasons, I don't like bright flashy colours, its too in your face for me! It doesn't offer me any benefits over the standard GT3 for the extra £15000, as I use my car a regular driver the RS's standard clubsport pack is a negative: with scaffolding in the back & buckets that don't flip forwards & lack the thorax airbags. Of course on track it has the edge & is certainly a fabulous car, just not what I personally wanted, although I can understand why other would!

Mmmm I love choosing some one else's car, wouldn't a 997S just drop in under the radar of practicality, two rear seats, boot storage behind the rear seats as well, maybe a cab? I have to say that having a cab as second car is an asset, YOu can't own one (too hairdresser & not for hardcore enthusiasts)but the Mrs can & then you can use it & get all the benefits of the wind in your hair without the negative image!!!
cab barge options RS4 - XKR -650 - M6, or get her Mini Cooper S Works cab & spend the money saved on a Prodrive upgrade for your AMV8!
Pugs... You've just been brain washed by having depreciation free use of a Fezza for a few months when the new one arrives & you put more than 3 miles a year on it & loose your shirt, then you'll be back to good old Pork. Then again knowing you, it will be sold for over list one year later with 40k on the clock. You SHOULD be a car dealer you'd make a packet!

It is an issue. I had a play in a mates 430 Scud on the weekend, and although quicker than my Vantage (by a LONG way) it was too fast for the road. We went on one of my favourite 'loops' and it was just ridiculously fast. Also I did feel a bit embarrassed in it, it is a very shouty car! (Even in dark grey with matching wheels). Would be a fantastic car at an RMA day at Spa, but in my local mid loop country pub car park it was much more embarrassing where the Aston is classy.
I have been thinking for some time and have come up with nothin that can replace the Vantage, I do fancy the V12 RS, but a bit over budget.
Aaaah!!! Classic Aston Driver! Very classy...

I'm sure I saw a Vanquish S the other day for £105,000.
I know what you mean!! Dreamy car, but when I drove one I much much preferred my Vantage, same with the 9, that scuppered those two on my list.Aaaah!!! Classic Aston Driver! Very classy...

Thanks for the ideas
Vanquish
997GT3
Ferrari 575
Gallardo
F430
F360 Challenge Stradale
V12 RS
Morgan Aero 8
late 80s Vantage X-pack
I think maybe to all except the late 80s Aston and the Morgan.
The options that I think appeal the most are
Vanquish
997GT3
Gallardo
F360 Challenge Stradale
[over budget] Vantage V12 RS
Guess I will have some fun with a few test drives....

I'm back into a V8 Vantage after 6 months with a Vanquish S (which was after a V8 Vantage)...
The torque and sound of the Vanquish make it fantastic fun, but it really doesnt drive as well as the V8 Vantage. You sit way too high in the car, and the steering and feel are quite removed from the more lively V8
I traded into the Vanquish on the looks, exclusivity, power and sound and loved every minute... but stepping back into the V8 was a bit of a wake up call as to how it should really feel (still miss the torque and sound though!)
Just another data point for you!

I totally agree with the above comments, I lusted for a Ferrari forever but when I drove one it was excellent but not really something I wanted to be seen in.....a little bit too ostentantious
I chose a DB9 at the time but changed to the V8 in 2006 as I thought that the 9 was a bit too grown up (and I really wanted a manual gearbox!)
I recently went looking for something new and couldn't find anything, I've spoilt myself too soon I think.
Hmmm....maybe that supercharger might spice things up
Get a nearly new Corvette Z06 - and keep the Vantage. Then gradually make the Vette even faster and rawer with a few upgrades every six months. You will smile forever more.
Having driven all the above suggestions above I would vote for the Vanquish S (if you live near the repair shop) and the GT3 RS (if you can face being another Porsche owner).
