The Gallardo's hopeless I'm afraid, wouldn't bother!

jus - can you supply more details. I love the look of the Gallardo and the noise is wonderful. So what's wrong with it? I know the clutch issue is a pain but is there anything else?

Have a drive in a 997tt. At the end of the day considering all the other exotics, the 997tt is unbeatable. It is insanely fast, offers 2+2 seating, takes corners as no other car and still has its first service after 2 years or 10.000 miles. I am on my second 997tt and simply cannot fault the car.

Bit dull to look at though.

Mightily accomplished car, but then most makers do those now.

Think if I was going Pork I'd probably get a GT3.

Or protect myself from depreciation and get a 993TT.

Murph, the question was if you could only have one car that did a bit of everything. I agree that the GT3 is very accomplished but it does not have rear seats and also, once you have feel the surge when the turbo's start blowing there is no going back. The 993 is a great car but it just feels dated.

Agree, the 997tt could be more hardcore, it could be louder, it could come without the bling wheels.

I also drive a DB9 and love it to bits but still as an everyday proposition the Porsche still wins. My partner has a 997tt and a F430 and he comes to the same conclusion. Visiting clients, leaving the car a couple of days at Heathrow or throwing in a trackday - only the 997tt can fulfill all roles in one single package.

You're talking to someone who has 3x 2-seaters. I'd never get myself into such an awful predicament biggrin

tbh, if I were ever to be so careless as to get myself into that position (smile) I'd probably get an RS4 estate or similar.

I like the 997, and one day will own a 911 (a petrolhead must do IMO). Not sure the watercooled TT will be the one though (GT2 might be interesting).

I had the exact same impression, until I drove them. Totally dull and lifeless! Completely uninvolving and insulated, no feel whatsoever.vIt's like an everyday Audi that happens to look like a supercar.

The interior's also boring and there's no indication that you're in a Lambo, it really feels like you're sitting in an Audi as everything has been dropped straight in from their parts bin. They haven't even bothered to re-arrange the climate control buttons or anything, it's all precisely the same. Really doesn't feel special at all. Found the seats hard, unsupportive and uncomfortable too. Quite a disappointment!

Also, the front wheel arch intrudes massively into the footwell, forcing your feet all the way over to the left. There's no comfortable resting spot for your right foot, really, there's wheel arch right where you would naturally want to put it. It's made even more obvious in the manual gearbox version, the brake pedal is where the clutch should be and the clutch pedal is practically in the passenger foot well tongue out

The V12 Vantage RS is going to be pusging £140k - out of my range. I am topped out at £100k.

A 997TT is an option. The 3.6 480bhp model will take a pretty buig hit with the 3.8 520 bhp model due soon so I may hold on for the new model to hit the market and for prices to get discounted down based on the must have factor being reduced for the old 997TT.

But, I have driven a 997TT and while it's bonkers fast, glued to the road and goes like stuff off a shoevl when the turbo is on song, it's a bit uninvolved. I want something a bit more raw. Don't get me wrong - I love the 997TT - it's awesome, but it's a bit cold. I was hoping the Gallardo would be more inspiring but the reply above seems to suggest not.

360 CS?

100% spot on on all counts jus! When I got my F430 my short list was either the Ferrari or a Gallardo and I found all the things you say to be true. The F430 felt special, special, special whereas the Gallardo - even if it is as quick - felt like an Audi and was a complete non event. The Ferrari feels special just to sit in when it's parked and is absolutely just as useable too. I sat in the Lambo and genuinely thought "is that it then?" In fact having read the horror stories on another forum I'd say the Ferrari is a much better bet reliabilty wise too. Frankly if I was going for the Gallardo I'd get an R8 - at least that IS actually an Audi!

Agreed, the F430 is far superior, and the R8 does a better job of being a Gallardo than the Gallardo does! Such a pity but that's just the way it is.

Do it.

If you can cope with more raw, more in your face, there are few cars more worthy of your 100k.

Not bothered about new or old, only criteria is a bit more raw than a V8V. Budget is max £100k and only room for one car.

I think I will investigate the 360CS.

Vanquish S looks nice but it's a bit of a monster size isn't it? I like the nippier feel of the V8V and the 911. It's a contender but I feel - at the moment - I've done AM so let's move on...

360CS is undoubtedly a stunning piece of kit. However you said that you only have room for one car and I think it would be TOO raw as your only car. Which takes us neatly back to an F430...............smile

After numerous years in Pork, latest: just sold 997TT - which is /was an awesome car you'll be hard pressed (as I'm finding) to find a better all round car - yes they're popular, there's a bloody good reason!
I want to keep budget down properley sub-100K this time so been looking at 360 Modena and now deliberating V8 Vantage.
One of the reason for selling the 997 was the announced facelifted model for Autumn, so prices have slid -- or is the 'Credit Crunch' that the Country is talking itself into?
With Aston (or the Internet) talking revamped 4.7 version, am i looking just a little too early to pick up a deal on a 08/57 plated V8V-Sportshift?
Cheers Graham
