Yes, Rick was very helpful in answering any number of technical queries and kindly offered to let me display the trial sets in his reception area. It does add some credibility to these things and kicked me up the backside to try and put a professional touch on every aspect of them.

Excellent!

I knew Rick was interested in working with these. Any chance we could see a photo of the stand in situ?

Be interesting to see how they are presented etc..

What I intend to do with my set is temporarily attach them for some photo's as they come in the alloy finish, then I will shrink wrap them in a suitable covering, paint them to match the car and re-attach for a direct comparison with photo's.

Hopefully this will allow me to judge which look is best with minimal fuss and allow me to retain the original finish if required.

Rick has plans for his reception area so I can't show the stand I made in its position yet, but here's a shot I took prior to taking it down to his place:

For those interested in such things, it's a wall mounted bowed unit, shaped to the contour of the rear light of a DB7, covered in black leatherette with American white maple sides and a burl maple wing motif that is spaced off to stop the blades falling out.

I think that I'll supply all future sets with a few disposable Velcro tabs so that people can trial these things before they fit them permanently. Yours are on the way Phil.

That looks fantastic Mark.

The stand is just as good as the blades :-)

I like that Motif, you'll be selling those next. haha

For curiosity on the stand numbers, which set have you sent out to me? I can't remember which ones I stated now.

Phil, I bet that's confusing! We developed the set numbers on this thread and you're getting set 6, but in the unit, for the sake of aesthetics, they are number 2.

I saw it yesterday when I dropped my car off for a service - a beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

I had to rush that display out on a sunday morning, so I'm glad it doesn't reflect poorly at Rick's place. As for the bespoke car interiors, would love to do that as a full time job, but that's completely different from the cabinetmaking I currently do.....he says, tinkering with ali. strips at the back of an Astonrolleyes

A Package arrived today :-)

I thought what could this be,, funny shape for the glue I had on order. and to my surprise it contained two rear blades for the Aston.

I was like a little boy at Christmas ;-)

I'll be offering them up later, however my car lives outside and it's raining today.

I'll do a test fit ASAP and post pics and then probably will have them painted to match as I think the finish on them at the moment might not go fully with the car.

A very pleasurable experience opening the tube and finding all the little goodies inside.

Well done Mark!

I'll send you a private email later.

Hi all I am displaying Marks great work in our reception area, and will also be adding them to my website shortly, I am recommending this product I think it is a great and initiative idea, We are not selling it ourselves but directing anyone interested in the product, what we can do for anyone interested is temporarily fit the samples to one light at our workshop so a decision can be made as to which style you would like and then order directly through Mark

Rick,

Without wanting to jump off thread, but as you're active on this one I'll draw your attention to another idea currently being discussed either here or over on AMOC. ( I can never keep up with which forum which thread is on)

I am going to design a new warning lamp strip for the DB7's as many people think the original is too dim.

By using modern materials and printing options I am very confident a new strip can be produced that will be far more visible to the driver without the need to change the lamp types, however installing LED's will also be of benefit due to their long life and more focussed beam.

Would this be something that might interest you alongside the Rear Blades?

On my own car I might go as far as changing the position of some warnings, so things like traction control and indicators are more prominent, something I can easily do by re-wiring the actual rear of the clocks themselves. ( I could do this for others if they wanted and on that note I wonder if there might be a specific sequence of warning icons, left to right that meets with most people's needs?)

Anyway back to the original programming... I'll start a new thread on this and link form this posting to it when done.

My blades arrived safely today, thank you Mark. They are really stunning - great workmanship and thanks for all the fitting instructions.
I am still undecided about going for a chrome look or body colour. I think I'll do one of each and then temporarily put them in place and maybe post some photos for a forum vote.
Thanks again, you're a star.

I'm relieved that everything's getting where it should be on time and intact. Sorry if the fitting instructions seem a little patronising, but I thought it best to cover all eventualities.

Since GTDB7(Phil) started this thread, I've considered everything I've done to be a collaboration between you guys here and those from the AMOC, so please post your pictures of your trials and final results so that we can all enjoy them.

Thanks Rick for your commendation, it's a real confidence boost to make these things ever better.

Mark.

Hi, just been redirected here from AMOC whilst reading a light thread - I think the blades look absolutely fantastic, where can I get I set and who do I email?

Also, have you thought about going through Chiltern Aston for bit more exposure? They love mods there...

My car is grigio Ferrari, was wondering if rather than tinting my lights, if I went for a silver colour - just not sure when enough paint is enough... I would also want to do it in situ, is this out of the question?

Have you got any plans to perfect that registration plate recess and chrome strip?

The rear lights are one of the areas (as well as rear bumper and console) on the Vanquish i disslike, just dont have time to further my work at the moment.
I just love the lines and lights on the rear of the one-77.

Yeti, Please E-mail me.

I'm currently spending what little free time I have in my workshop making these blades, so marketing these things elsewhere may not go down too well at home. As for tinting, you need to speak to GTDB7, he's done the practical side of this and has a more informed opinion.

Froggie, yes the One-77 rear lights are beautiful, particularly the strakes in the brake element of the lens that fan out like the primary feathers in a big wing.

The number plate recess and chrome strip fit the overall design of the back end of the 7's, so I'm unsure about what you'd like to see altered. This whole thread has been about the details of one aspect of one car, so if it's a detail you've got in mind, can you be more specific?

Hi Mark.

Again sterling job you did in bringing these to market as it were.

I didn't get chance to go out to the car today, between rain and building a website for a Plumber I didn't have time to play.

Was thinking of lifting and lengthening the chrome eyebrow and following around light line,
And shaping the boot and reg plate recess similar to DBS with matching plate to update and loose the squareness, splitter would be cool.

Apologies to those of you who were hoping to see a chrome/body colour comparison.

I sprayed one in body colour and temporarily fitted it and it looked so good that I didn't even bother considering anything else. Now I have fitted both it is just the result I wanted - nicely understated.

A friend with a DB6 came round this morning and I didn't say anything but he could see something was different but he couldn't say what. When I pointed out the blades it became obvious to him but he said it looked just like they had been there forever as if Aston had designed them

Thanks again Mark
