"...Does the fast road geo set up cause any increase in "tram-lining" on rutted or steeply cambered roads?"
Hope you don't mind me chipping-in here: my recent experiences may help to answer your question. My car (2014 SP10 w/ BR performance upgrade and Sportpack suspension) had BR's fast-road geo settings applied a few months ago. The differences the geo made have already been well-described above. On to your question: near where I live, there are a couple of really badly-worn roads with quite pronounced longitudinal 'ruts' that are a great test. Driving across these with BR's fast-road setup, there's the same steering 'wiggle' as you'd get with the factory geo, but nothing more pronounced. It's a very good setup and quite benign for general use.
If, however, you start to go further, things change.
In the search for more 'front-end' in the car, I've since had more negative camber dialled-in (at the front) and this does make it more sensitive to the road surface. (This is normal: on most cars, increased front camber = more sensitive to road surface condition). The previously benign steering wiggle is now a much more pronounced 'tug' - left-right-left-right - as you go across the ruts in the road. The payback is far better front grip once in a turn, as the tyre's contact patch is flatter to the road when loaded. I think the trade-off is worth it, others may hate how it feels - definitely a matter of personal choice! Reducing the front toe-out can lessen the effect to a degree, but you have to be careful not to overdo it and kill the steering feel.

Thanks Mate. That's helpful. I took delivery of the car yesterday and we just kind of agreed to keep it on a trickle charger, covered with a periodical check from the AML engineer from time to time...it's only until March so it should be okay.
Isn't that AM Brussels??Edited by trigbush on Thursday 29th September 07:35

Yes my 2010 V8.Vantage has had the magic touch from Mike at Bamford Rose.
I was going to sell the car, not happy with it from day one but always wanted a Aston .
But now it's like a new car outputting 460BHP and drives so much better now .
1 Lightened flywheel and twin plate clutch fitted .
2 New manifolds and 200 cell sports catalysts.
I never do write ups but this is my first one.
Thanks to the team at BR. I now love my car, the drive home was A1+ I have a new car now.

Mike,
I was doing some touring in Europe this summer and whilst the roof was down on my V12VS Roadster, the car, on certain roads, typically at higher speed, developed a judder. The whole car was shaking, not badly but it seemed noticeable from the steering wheel through to the whole car. On another day at similar speed on different road it was either gone or very much more subdued. Maybe it was a different wind direction or different road surface.
The car feels very tight at lesser speeds but I keep getting this juddering as we go higher up. Even with the roof up its noticeable.
So is this the scuttle shake and if so is there anything we can do to tighten up the chassis?

Well, I have no judder or scuttle shake in mine, I hate convertibles that have scuttle shake and wouldn't stand that in my car.
I have been told that the Vantage Roadster has one of the stiffest chassis on a convertible so probably something wrong with the settings of your particular car.

What is the gearbox in that? Is it a sequential box or a Graziano box with a different gear change?Performance courtesy of Bamford Rose

Looks like great fun
Serious driving. Must have had studded tyres to stop going off into the trees..

I haven't had a look at the Bamford Rose website for a while so I thought I'd just take a look.

Bought my first Aston in July last year after a couple of 911s. It a V8 Vantage N400 Roadster
Love the car to pieces except for one problem which AM wilmslow AM Bristol don't seem to be able to sort.
There is a judder when setting off especially when cold, once the. Air is warm it's intermittent but trying to set off from traffic lights as normal is embarrassing. It also engages and disengages when reversing which can be tricky, AM have set the clutch up twice and it's been a masi e improvement but the judder is still there.
They tell me this is a characteristic of the gearbox??
Is there a cure for this problem.
The car has done 25000 miles.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Once the trans control unit has been wiped and system put in rapid learn mode to learn new adaptive offsets, condition of gearbox mounts and diff behaviour are both known, only component left is the clutch. Often with the symptom you state, whilst clutch friction plate might not be worn out, the pressure plate fingers relax, however, this can normally be detected by observing slave cylinder movement / clamp stroke required to achieve clutch clamp / release. Most franchised dealers are reluctant to divulge this sort of diagnostic because it would mean at point of sale a % worn sticker detailing clutch system could be slapped across Windscreen.
The judder is not inherent fault of gearbox, it can't be, if it were that inherent problem would be present on manual / sportshift too as they are identical boxes. Root cause of problem is weak single plate clutch, a flywheel which is not heat treated and 1st / reverse gearing which requires a fair amount of clutch slip to pull away. Upgrade to twin plate is the answer to all problems and gives far superior driver interaction/ enjoyment driving the car.
Hi Mike,
I have a quick question:
i have a 2008 4.3 Vantage sportshift.
When accelerating, and passing 4000 rpm, the car sometimes starts to make a whistling sound, in all gears (when passing 4000 rpm). And maybe I'm crazy, but I think it comes from behind the dashboard
I bought the car with 20.000 km, and now the car has 25.000 km. And as far as I know, the car has only been doing this for the last 2.000 kilometers.
What could this be? Maybe it's nothing, and maybe it's: 'they all do that, sir', But maybe you have come across something similar?
Thanks in advance !

Well it took me a while to take the plunge but today I collected my car from BR having had the full transformation treatment. I work in the NHS where the word "transformation" is abused on a daily basis but what BR do to your Aston is worthy of it. It really does feel like a different car. The work I've had done includes:
Exhaust manifolds, 200 cell cats, X-pipe (and retaining standard V8S back box)
Twin plate clutch and lightened flywheel
Fast road geo, remap and gear linkage modification.
All of the above have been commented on at length in this thread and elsewhere so I won't waffle too much. However, what I will say is that whilst each modification on its own is great, they compliment each other perfectly to produce a truly enhanced driving experience. The increased power, available with such improved throttle response and accompanied by such an enhanced soundtrack is addictive.
Huge thanks to Mike, Adrian and the team for the quality of the work and service provided from a very happy Aston owner.

Couldn't agree more! I had the same work (excluding the clutch / flywheel for now) done to my car and the differences are stark. It completely changes how the car drives and responds and the extra urge - especially in the top half of the rev range - isn't subtle! The noise with the X-pipe is also very different. The usual Aston V8 burble is gone, to be replaced by a spine-tingling howl at high rpm that's more reminiscent of a flat-plane V8. Very addictive (and absolutely deafening) in tunnels.

Sounds amazing Pete - not that I've heard it Come on lets get a proper mic on it and share the love - shocks me people selling exhausts rarely do this (or if they do they stick an iPhone bassless mic on it).
