Mike,

In another thread, you said about V8V engines that "in 5 years i have seen 3 failures not anything to do with customer misuse / abuse. In comparison a minimum of 1 db9 per month needing rebuild. I think this is evident in wider world, there are so many '9's advertised stating 'new engine fitted'. The V8 is generally bombproof whereas a neglected '9 could need a bomb to keep on road."

Since I have a MY09 V8V and recently bought a MY05 Vanquish S, I have some questions:

1) What were the causes of the V8V engine failures? Are the 4.3 and 4.7 equally durable, or is one more bombproof than the other?

2) Are the DB9 failures caused by (the widely discussed) low oil levels? What other causes, if any, have you seen?

3) How durable is the Vanquish S version of the V12 ?

Hello Mike, looking for your expert advice here.
My DB9 is having hot start issue, cold engine would start fine and drives fine, once you shut it off when engine is hot and try to crank it again, you can never start the car, sometimes take 2-3 times to start.
Scan it and got following codes:
P2106 - throttle actuator control system - forced limited power
P0191 - fuel pressure sensor circuit range/perf.

I swapped the fuel pressure sensor with my mates DB9 and clear the codes, its still the same but doesn't throw any more codes, any comments or suggestions for me, thanks

Hi Mike,

I've got a 2009 DB9V. Has about 25k miles on it. Got it in February with 18K miles on it. Third Owner. About two months after I got it it started to have a howling noise from up front. It's not rpm, gear, or speed related as I can make it by moving the pedal into a certain position. Then by slowly pressing or releasing the pedal it comes and goes. The bugger is that in 5th at highway speed it is right there. I think it has to have something to do with the intake system. An air leak or something. I tried to record it on my phone. You can hear it on and off and then steady at the last 6 seconds of the clip. Any thoughts?

Hi Mike & everybody else..!

New AM V8V 4.7 Manual MY11 owner here - had the car just less than a week & loving it. Wanted to cover a few topics, if that's okay?

1) Car 'character' - does everybody have the misting headlamps, grinding noise on low speed pull away in first (clutch fully engaged), engine quite tappety (with a regular lower click every 4 seconds or so) even after a long run ? I can live with these things but if there's anything to improve them, or they're a sign of a fault - please let me know

2) Boot ingress kit - for the cost (seem to remember reading approx 30gbp) it sounds worth it. Is it an easy self fit? Any guides?

3) What's the latest 'volvo' SatNav update DVD part number please? I hear that one should of just been released for this year.

4) Iron parts in the engine bay showing oxidisation - dealer says normal - is it?

5) Clutch life - the car was 8400mi when I collected it and the clutch seems fine on it. The bite is taking a bit of getting used to (especially hill starts with the fly-off handbrake and the very high reverse gear). Any tips or tricks to prolong the life of the clutch? I know the car can move away on just the bite but how many revs are you guys using to pull away smartly? Without causing damage to the clutch.

6) The car from a main dealer and covered by the official AM used car warranty - do you know what affects this in terms of upgrades? Headers/cats/intake etc?

7) Given the noises mentioned in point 1, would an port and balance be beneficial? I was the video of the BR engine with the 50p balanced on it and fully expect mine would throw the coin off (I've just to actually check). The smooth engine after this light engine work appeals to me but how much does it cost?

8) BR airbox mod or GT4 style cone filters? Which would you recommend and why?

Sorry about all the questions, I've read through a lot of this thread and can't see answers to the above so if they have already been asked please excuse me.

Much appreciated,
Paul

Should I assume from this thread fizzling out that BR are not in operation any more?

I do hope not.. My car is in there for a service and will be collecting tomorrow. The workshop looked very full when I dropped it off...

I do hope they're still open as I booked mine in for Friday for a service and power upgrade. Got e-mail back from Mike to confirm :-) Be nice to have a wander around and see what else in for service/sales.

Collected 'Blofeld' from BR yesterday after it's annual service. I do like their new 'Courtesy Car' and really enjoyed the ride from Leamington Spa train station back to BRHQ. A 7+ltr engine really makes some noise. The only draw back is for everyday driving it needs a full day back in the garage....

Does Nick not have a standard black interior? Is there a photo to back this up? wink
