Another experiment smile ooohhhh

I would be interested in the 200 CELL cats, but only if it produced the same sound as I have now. Without some form of silencing after the cats, it would get the interest of the police..... in the next county. I look forward to seeing the inlet manifold curve when put on the RR.

Mike, will you be able to use the anti-knock sensors from the new Vanquish to develop the DBS engine further?

Odd one this, as the car spec from Aston states bluetooth prep, but it has no wheel mounted controls and as far as I can see has only the GSM option whereby you pop a SIM card in.

but I reckon it's just a glitch in the matrix.
M
Be interesting to see if there is a bluetooth module connected and if so remove it to see what happens.

of course, a glitch in the matrix is the more obvious answer....

Mike,
I've been closely following this thread since you did Vince' Diablo Blanco. Great to have a pragmatic man to go to for advice !
Apologies for the trivial question...but my tyres need urgent changing and I would appreciate your confirmation on the following.
My car is a 2007 amv8, fitted with the standard mount in 19" (235/40/19 F and 275/35/19 R). I'd like to fit Front 245/40/19 and Rear 285/35/19 on the the original AM 8.5"" F and R 9.5"" alloys
AM dealer doesn't know whether this will work, despite this being listed as a potential alternative to the standard mount. He tells me that there is a major risk friction / rubbing ?
I find it hard to believe and wanted to double check with you ?
Will it be safe with that new mount to lower the car with H&R springs by around 0.75"
Thanks for your advice on these two points
Cheers

Mike:
Have you thought about approaching AM to have your BR modifications offered as an option that can be ordered when a new owner specs his/her new car? You stated that many of your components improved upon OEM parts because the OEM parts were built to a price. I think some buyers would quite happily pay the premium to have your modifications installed during the original build phase. Think of the cost savings of not having to discard inferior OEM parts.

This business model seems to work quite well for Mike Cooper and BMW for the Mini Cooper.

In a word, no - major job to retro fit knock control system meaning the better bang for buck would come from a bespoke mapping session of the car on a dyno and a remap to suit the market / fuel the car is being operated in.

As i have experienced and know too well...

i think the medicine we prescribed for your madness was the wrong way around, we should have slowed you down instead of feeding your crazy habits with a more insane machine.

I would edit your above remark about the police in the next county hearing the exhaust note with 200 cell cats fitted..... to read it wont matter that much cos by the time they down doughnuts and try to find you, another county will have separated you by then at the rate of knots you pedal at... smile

All i can say is we have fitted wider rubber than that at lower ride height and not encountered problems. Are you going for pilots or std tyres?

Although the thought of +600 BHP Vanquish 2 straight off the production line sounds irresistible, the journey from Gaydon to BR will need to be driven to realise that dream - as a couple of owners are planning on doing the moment they are given their keys.

As BR has proven, the concept of owners wanting performance upgrade Astons exists, it is a wonder why more upgrades cant be spec'd at dealership or point of order, but fortunately for BR there isnt... smile

Hi Mike,
Fitted the pilot indeed. No clearance issues. Ride is smoother, as far as I'm concerned.
In fact, it's a move i' d strongly recommend

Dear Doctor Mike, thank you for the prescription, however it seems my exploits have now been erased from the record books. Obviously people have discovered that I am cheating so will that mean all of the points will be erased also?

2 weeks down the line MOT passed with flying colours wink. The sound is glorious, the power addictive and the smile wider than ever. Thank you for prescribing the insane mods, I may need another consultation soon biggrin

Equally pleased with my little baby, Thanks BR. I have heard a whisper that we can expect air box mods to be available in the near future which apparently will release another 25 to 30 BHP. I think that it would be right and proper to go down that road as well. I would be getting close to that 500 BHP figure.

Don't tell Molly!

Speaking of which, my V12V is in surgery this week at the Bamford Rose centre for clinically under-powered and lazy Aston Martins.

This is the procedure we will follow to deliver this a leaner, fitter V12V:-

1- Dyno test standard V12Vantage performance
2- db noise test at standstill and drive-by
3- Install exhaust manifolds, cats, cams and long tract length inlet manifold
4- Dyno test
5- Noise test
6- Update with resonator / intermediate silencer box to reduce sound levels closer to that recorded in stage 2 above.
7- Report findings and compare/contrast.

More to follow soon.........

Can you explained the V8 Vantage knock strategy to me? I see all the signal to noise tables for each cylinder but I do not see the advanced and retard limits or the slow and fast advance rates in 3-D or 2-D tables. All other EEC6 EEPROMs have 3-D tables for maximum advance and maximum retard for load versus RPM and 2-D tables for slow and fast advance rates. Aston Martin appears to have a unique strategy

That's weird!! I was wondering exactly the same thing smile I don't have the faintest idea what you are talking about but I am looking forward to the answer.

i'm taking no responsibility for this one, i did my cover up job and Lance breezed through his anti-doping test. It seems you let the cat out the bag by leaving bobbles of torn up rubber all over the place with a big cheesy grin, you only have yourself to blame me old china smile

Lance will have to wait a while for his top up i'm afraid... Armstrong is busy on the BR exercise bike at present..... wink Lance is welcome back then, we can test out the next potion on him smilesmilesmile
