Hi Mike

I've had a recent problem with my ASM and believe that this is due to incorrect level in the ASM reservoir. I now have the correct fluid but I don't know whether to top up after priming the system or after it has been standing for a while?

The level is below the 'min' mark but after running the pump it really goes right down.

Thanks

Hi.

If you have had a problem??? more serious than a slight loss of level?? the safest course of action is fluid flush, fluid renew and bleed, clutch position learn and gear position learn. Bring the system up to temp, prime, leave for 30 mins to settle and then trim level to an inch from the top of the neck.

let me know how you get on or if you need further help.

I hope for forum member and jolly nice fellow JTAMV the 'Vanquish nightmare' is now well and truly over....

A few records were set by this car, apart from being a totally gorgeous looking Aston and now fantastic car to drive....

She is the first car to roll out of the new Bamdford Rose workshop.

Due to the 'nightmare' perhaps will be the longest car to stay in our care before being back in the hands of a happy owner.

But the most important..... this Vanquish was the one to spawn the tooling for future Subframe repair.

For those who haven't, read this first;

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=1...

Below is the corrosion that was not detected

Because the original post detailing the owners anguish of how this defect was undetected, it is probably best that we do not make further comment about the matter here.

Let's start with the good news first, the car now has MOT and drives perfectly because Bamford Rose refurbished and refitted this,

Here is how....

A new front subframe RRP is approx. £5k + VAT with about £2.5k + VAT fitting costs at dealer - hence the justification of the original thread being entitled 'My Vanquish Nightmare'.

For those Vanquish owners unfortunate enough to encounter Subframe rot, Bamford Rose can now slash that repair bill by around 75%...!

We have created tooling / jig that the subframe sits on, we then remove the corroded parts and replace with a new sections. In creating the jig, each section of the original subframe was removed and used as a template to create laser cut sections. We now have the option to replace one or two sections on subframes partially corroded, or we can even make a brand new subframe from scratch at a fraction of the RRP

The repair of this Vanquish has been.... emotional.... and after such a rough start to Aston ownership, it was a real pleasure to have recovered the nightmare for the owner and at a fraction of the RRP price quoted to him.

We at Bamford Rose wish the proud owner of this beauty many happy trouble free miles of cloud 9 Vanquish ownership....!

Good on you for creating such an elegant solution. However, it royally takes the piss when the manufacturer should be offering the same.

Amazing that a so called modern design, could corrode to that level in the first place.....

My mates 1951 Morris Minor had more solid steel in it than that, and it had a tree growing through it..

Dear All,

It was great to finally pick the Vanquish after such a long period away. I have included a few photos to show that it got home, but I must add that the car felt superb on the way home -

I cannot thank Adrian and Mike enough, at all points through the process they have been available, informative and
innovative as the subframe solutions shows, their attention to detail is first rate. I will be writing a more detailed review - but for now thanks for all your help.

James could you post up the in depth review in the main section. Cross reference back to here, but not everyone checks the BR thread every day. Glad you've got it sorted, loving the front subframe - top work by BR.

Note to self stop looking at Vanquish prices!

I hope that I'm at the right place to ask a technical question. I'm a relatively new 'piston head' from Holland and I'm the proud owner of a 2005 DB9. Wonderful machine! but now the infotainment system just stopped working.

I've managed to get the fault codes from the system with my Aston Martin WDS system - DC01, DC02 and 1f38. I don't know what I should do with the 1f38 (temperature sensor display malfunction) - I replaced the ICM already, because I thought that was the cause - but I still get the same fault code - maybe it is just not so important. I now think the main problems is the MOST fiber optic loop which is broken somewhere (the DC01 and DC02 codes).

I know that if I just make a (short) loop in the boot of the car, so just the ICM, CD changer, amplifier and phone-module - the DC01 and DC02 are gone. The GPS disk drive is also OK. So the fault must be somewhere in the cables to or from or in the TMC or AM/FM module itself.

I have bought new MOST FO cables, so I now want to connect these with the TMC and AM/FM modules, but I don't know how to reach them....I know they are located somewhere in the corner of the boot - right side, but do I reach them via the boot or do I reach them via the back passenger seats? Do I have to remove the side wall in the back of the seats do I have to remove the top shelf behind the back seats...??? I would be great if someone could help me a bit further...any ideas??

Hi.

You will have to remove seats, centre stack and surrounding bits of trim etc because the Fibre Optic cables run along the main cabin loom - Good luck..!

To gain access to the modules remove Right Rear wheel / wheel arch liner and drop down the panel.

Hope the new parts fixes your problem.

Quick question,

Does the AM official power kit benefit the Bamford Rose Exhaust system or is the improvement minimal?

Quick question yes, taken long time to answer sorry - been devoted to Lance.... see below..!

The addition of AM power upgrade kit on top of Bamford Rose exhaust upgrade will be minimal to point of totally unnoticeable in respect of power to road wheels and driveability.

Ingredients:

A wonderful V12Vantage, add some performance-enhancing drugs... and out pops the other end 'Lance' but this Lance is legitimately worthy of champion status....!

here is the car and the happy owner (JOHNG39) project outline;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The V12 Vantage was tested on dyno and at standard achieved 555NM @ 6000rpm and 507BHP @ 6900 rpm

The Bamford Rose V12V'S' exhaust manifolds and catalysts were added and achieved 590NM @ 6000rpm and 540BHP @ 6900 rpm

On top of the exhaust system upgrade Bamford Rose upgrade camshafts were installed and achieved 595NM @ 6000rpm and 565BHP @ 6900 rpm

On top of the exhaust and cam upgrade 200 cell density high flow secondary catalysts were installed and achieved 600NM @ 6000rpm and 570BHP @ 6900 rpm

This specification returned 112db static noise test at 5000 rpm exhaust valves open, 94db valves closed and 113db at a high engine speed / load drive-by which was a little too loud for Lance's pilot. So the decision was made to release the project with standard factory secondary catalysts where noise levels recorded were 102db static noise test at 5000 rpm exhaust valves open, 89db valves closed and 108db at a high engine speed / load drive-by, together with the deep baritone burble at idle and loud but not intrusive noise at high engine speed which maintained the almost V8 type growl, this was deemed "perfect" by Lance's happy pilot..!

As can be seen, the drugs help pedal Lance rather well....

The purpose of this project was primarily to produce an upgrade kit for V12 which was more cost effective than the V12 Pinnacle kit as seen in Lewis's (AKA Yeti) monster. The result is a modular kit where just the exhaust, exhaust and cams and exhaust, cams and high flow cats can be selected depending on the outcome desired for a given investment.

The drive in / drive out time of the exhaust manifolds is 12 hours.
The drive in / drive out time of exhaust manifolds and cams is 16 hours
The drive in / drive out time of exhaust manifolds, cams and high flow cats is 17 hours

The V12Vantage 'S' Bamford Rose upgrade performance can simply be described as savage, John had the pleasure of test driving Vanquish II earlier in the day, we had the pleasure of hearing the comparison of that drive versus Lance.....

Mike, I've been following the progress of Lance from afar, and I have to say the outcome is most impressive from what I have read - congratulations.

I have a very dull and minor question to ask, which may not be suited to this forum. It's a beeping sound, emanating I think from the speakers. I'll give more detail on request, but only if you think it's worthy of following up. Most of your questions are related to much bigger projects and I don't want to bog you down with trivia, but it's driving me mad. 2006 V8V. Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for your comments re 'Lance'....!

We are here to help PHeaders so no such thing as dull and boring question.

Does your car have Bluetooth??
Is it making a beeping or pulsing sound?

We are thinking it could be the bluetooth box behind kick pannel on passenger side footwell (the panel that covers the body control module). You could disconnect and reconnect it. But this sounds one of those fault finding jobs where a specialist would need to examine because its very difficult in cases like this to give advice and direction to look for and detect a fault in components owners have never seen before or know where they are located.

Mike, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Your usual posts are normally after midnight! Odd one this, as the car spec from Aston states bluetooth prep, but it has no wheel mounted controls and as far as I can see has only the GSM option whereby you pop a SIM card in. I'm not using this option. The beep, and it is a beep, generally comes in threes, although has been known to repeat itself very quickly, and at different volumes. It occurs both with the stereo on and off. I've tried turning the phone off within the infotainment, likewise checked the parking distance control (unlikely I guess). I've turned the Bluetooth off on my phone (iPhone) and still occurs. Periodicity is odd, however, as it isn't all the time and bizarrely seems to occur on the same stretch of road. M6 southbound between J10 and 6, but not Northbound! (Coincidence i suspect) There may be some electromagnetic interference around there but I reckon it's just a glitch in the matrix. I wouldn't imagine for one minute the old Volvo SatNav has an audio warning of speed cameras, so I'm out of ideas. Last thing will be to put iPhone on aeroplane mode and see if that cuts out any interference from the phone side of things. Thanks again for your patience, i'd love to be contacting you about a 'Lance' type issue, but that will have to wait!

Just as 'Lance' pedals his way out of the shop.... in pedals the (at the moment) un corrupted V12Vantage of PistonHead member GuyCord.... Soon to become 'Armstrong'... Well, what else could the brother of 'Lance' be called....!

Guy admits he is nowhere near the nutter the pilot of 'Lance' is (hello John..!) and would like to sample the Bamford Rose exhaust manifold, 200 cell density cat, cams package, but with the long tract length inlet manifolds to deliver more low speed torque at the sacrifice of a small amount of redline power.

The delta between long tract and short tract we have dyno tested before and fully understand when we delivered the green machine monster for Lewis (AKA yeti). This means that using 'Lance's' performance walk from standard to 600NM / 570BHP spec, we can predict the final result for 'Armstrong' now and will be somewhere in the region of 620NM @ 5750 rpm / 530BHP @ 6900 rpm. An increase over standard of 65NM @ peak torque and 23BHP @ peak power speed.

Guy has also set the challenge to deliver the same noise / db level as standard which we will achieve by including a resonator system in the intermediate pipes.

The series of graphs below show;

1 =
Standard V12 Vantage = Blue line
V12V + Bamford Rose exhaust manifolds = Maroon line
+ Cams = Magenta line
+ Cats = black line Project 'Lance'
+ long runner inlet manifolds = golden line Bamford Rose 'Armstrong' Spec

2 =
‘Lance’ vs ‘Armstrong’

3 =
Bamford Rose 'Armstrong' Vs original factory performance

I know this torque curve will not tick all of John's boxes (which is why we never went for it for 'Lance'), but it will be really interesting to see how 'Armstrong' drives vs 'Lance' and i'm sure 'Armstrong' will bring big grin inducing acceleration fun for Guy.

The last graph in the series is the interesting one because now it is possible for drivers to select the torque curve they wish to upgrade to which best suits their driving style.... More low speed torque or more high speed power.... The choice is yours.... Just ask for....'Lance' or 'Armstrong'
