I still don't get why people do this. It doesn't look better than the factory mount - honestly, it doesn't.
Erm, it really does. The factory mount is a hideous wart on the car's nose.

Do you think the car was designed to have that mount on it?

I've just done my smaller plate and can confirm you need a minimum of 280mm to cover all the holes smile

That is a very stylish Aston M'Lord, what colour please.

In Tim's absence - it is Mako Blue. Fabulous colour yes

Maybe because we think that it does. Honestly, we do.
You may honestly think it does. But you'd also feel a bit of a twerp if the very next day, after removing your low speed impact protection, a driver parking, nudged the front end, causing thousands of pounds of damage instead of perhaps none.

That kind of incident has happened to every car I've run as a daily.

That is no what it is for. In any, case, if ypu look at the thing when you take it off, you'll see that it won't absorb any of the impact, but will just transfer it into the bumper and potentially into the supports behind the grille to which it is bolted.

If you genuinely think it looks good, then stick with it, but don't make excuses if you're just worried about removing it.

No, the plinth really is part of the car's low speed impact protection, made to resist gentle parking bumps.

Reference Grant's guide if you're still in doubt.

Why do you think it isn't fitted in many markets then? Why don't the DB9 and Vanquish have it? That is a slight afterthought benefit.

No idea, different regional legislation? And yes maybe it does look to some, an afterthought but in this case 'form follows function'.

It is BUT it won't stop you trashing a CF lip on bump or kerb wink
IMHO it is a token gesture and a plug ugly one at that!

Surely if you don't like the look of the plinth and do not consider it detrimental to the car, take it off.
If you think it acts as added protection to the front valance panel and grille, leave it on.
Personally I think that if someone reverses into your car hard enough the plinth gives very little protection.
It's your car at the end of the day and you are free to do what you want.
Just my opinion and we are all entitled to that aren't we?

Indeed, and that's why I expressed mine as an attempt to demonstrate an alternative to those who hold the incorrect one.

Wow. I guess Aston doesn't think us Florida drivers are as bad as those in the UK, since they don't deem it necessary to add that god awful, hideous, plastic piece of crap "low speed impact protection" to our cars. hehe

But seriously, just because a certain part has an added benefit under some circumstances, doesn't in any way imply it was part of the original design intent.

And the irony is the rubber bumpers instead of the lovely chrome ones on the mg due to US regulations iirc
