Having owned a 300hp Turbo for 4 and a bit years and 40 odd thousand miles I can safely say if I ever get another MR2 it'll have a V6 in the back, preferably a 2GR. Don't get me wrong, I like the turbo, but a lightly tuned 2GR will be around 300hp too, with no lag and a good chunk more torque in the bottom of the rev range. Plus the noise is much more in keeping with a 2 seater sports car.

Depends if you've got an na or turbo to start with as u'll need the tubby box, shafts and hubs.
Think its about 8k if you get someone to build it for you. Pauls got access to a supply of brand new engines too for not a lot extra, no import duty etc to pay either. I have a rev5 N/A which I'd use. I guess it would be cheaper to buy the turbo box, shafts and hubs than sell mine and find a turbo in a good condition. I really like the idea of a new engine inside a low mileage late model 2 like mine. I best get saving, although I've done a little car maintenance and my head is reasonably well screwed on, I think I'd be completely out of my depth doing an engine swap myself. This is all great if the lure of a Chimaera 450 for the same sort of money deosn't become too much

I've always wondered which engine would be better in a Mk3 Roadster. The V6 or a the 2ZZ (I think thats the one, the Celica T-Sport engine). Sometimes I think a high revving screamer might be better suited to the lightweight roadster.
No doubt the V6 is definitely the engine to have in a Mk2. If ever I get another Mk2, it'll have a V6 under the hood.

I hear what you're saying regards too big an engine in a short wheel based car.
It does make it a bit of an animal if you're clumsy with it but because it's mid mounted it's not as much of an issue as you'd think.
Longitudinally mounted is the enswer to our problems though.
Audi 01X box and 3.2 FSi V6 would be a fine choice. That's what i want for the Mk1 project when i finally get round to it.

It wasn't so much the weight, as I'm sure the car does cope fine, more the characteristics of the engine, as the Mk3 is more like an Elise so was wondering if a low torque, revvy engine that has to be worked hard is more in ethos with the car rather than the "lazier" V6. I can imagine the V6 really suits the Mk2 though, as its heavier and more of a GT car than a out and out sports car. On the flipside though, the new Exige is a V6 so if its good enough for Lotus One of these days though, I WILL scratch that itch!

Low torque, high revving is good for wringing it's neck but you just adjust to driving the V6 from lower down the rev range.
It's no comparison, the V6 whoops it everywhere. Speed, noise, in gear over-taking, on/off throttle response, it's a no brainer really.
Think of it like a Stratos and you're pretty much there.

I reckon I'm pretty sold on the idea, since you put it like that. My current car owes me a bit too much now (as you know) so maybe in a few years...

2. A mk1a (d reg I think) and a G Reg mk1b. Currently thinking about a Mk3 I've seen and making the switch up to something a little more modern!

What exhaust would the Mr2 PH collective suggest for a V6 Mr2 nothing too loud and anti social but sporty and a little fruity.

I'm really loving the idea of a Mk2 MR2 (NA) at the moment. I could sell my Fiesta and buy one without adding to insurance cost and still have change from selling my Fiesta. Really tempting. Seen a nice stock looking model on ebay for £850.

TameRacingDriver said: I'd have definitely bought that off you had I had the funds. In some respects, an MR2 of any Mark with a V6 would have been my perfect car. I had one MR2, a Rev 2 Turbo. Utter shed TBH. Shame as I loved driving it. Are those 16" Enkei's on that? I'm contemplating putting some on my black SW20 which is dropped on Tein coilovers but didn't know if the 16's would look tiny, but your car looks great!

They may be the same alloys as the one on the Gen 7 Celcia and/or the Mk3 MR2?
