Mk1a Black Coupe - 3VZFE (Black Bob, loved that car)
Remember that one, was a nice little car, that, and...

Mk3 Black Roadster - 1MZFE (Black Bob Jnr) Sold recently and is now in the hands of someone making an RS200 rep from it.

I'd have definitely bought that off you had I had the funds.

In some respects, an MR2 of any Mark with a V6 would have been my perfect car.

I had one MR2, a Rev 2 Turbo. Utter shed TBH. Shame as I loved driving it.

Has any one on here had a SW20 with a 3VZ-FE and a Japspeed Exhaust?

With a 4pot they are too loud and can be a little chavvy but with the extra two cylinders added to the beat I think it may be suitable.

Japspeeds are too boomy on everything I reckon. Pipes are just too big and too empty.

Even on the turbo which muffles sound it was a lot. We built one with one and cust changed it pretty quick iirc.

Berk is similar sound but very nice and not too loud.

That picture flatters it, it was dented, scratched, leaked any fluid that was in the engine, guzzled petrol, it was basically fked!

Thing is I have been looking for a MK2 Rev 3 Turbo with T-Bar in red, good maintenance history and no rust, for many, many months now and I have not found one which is reasonably priced.

Does such a car still exist?

Yes but expect to pay lots for it

How much to MZ or VZ V6 conversions go for on a Mk2 these days?

Buying a ready built one or to get one converted?

Conversion is around £3k for a 1MZ on a Mk2, wouldn't bother with a 3VZ.

1MZ VVti's are the engine of choice at the minute before you spend big bucks on a 2GRFE.

Depends on what your going to do to it 3vz is stronger and easier to tune than a 1mz.

For a conversion. I wouldn't be planning on doing much in terms of power mods. Maybe a long way in the future a supercharger or something, but tbh, a decent sounding exhaust and intake combo would be all.

You'll struggle to tune a 3vz much beyond a standard 1mz.

The 1mz is lighter, newer and equally as able to handle boost up to around 350.

The vvti lumps kick out 220bhp as standard.

All in about 6k for 325bhp of v6 lovelyness if you do the pretty much bolt in build yourself.

Depends if you've got an na or turbo to start with as u'll need the tubby box, shafts and hubs.

Think its about 8k if you get someone to build it for you. Pauls got access to a supply of brand new engines too for not a lot extra, no import duty etc to pay either.

I'd be happy with a 220bhp V6 tbh.... I would imagine that would keep up with a stock Rev3 turbo anyway.

Aye, I reckon mine would keep up with a standard turbo. Certainly a rev 1 or 2.

Drag racing, buy the turbo.

Drive on the road or on track, v6 every single time.

Well, rev 1 & 2 were 220 Shetland ponies, so it would be pretty even. Even the 245 rev 3 would only creep away from you.

Also, V6 noise. Maybe next year, better start saving!

Having owned a 300hp Turbo for 4 and a bit years and 40 odd thousand miles I can safely say if I ever get another MR2 it'll have a V6 in the back, preferably a 2GR.

Don't get me wrong, I like the turbo, but a lightly tuned 2GR will be around 300hp too, with no lag and a good chunk more torque in the bottom of the rev range.

Plus the noise is much more in keeping with a 2 seater sports car. smile
