All of a sudden it make my other choice, a Focus ST3, seem very cheap.
An unusual comparison. I was in the market for an 86 but was also considering boxster/cayman, 370Z and Z4 - FWD hot hatches weren't and aren't in the equation.I hope you find what you're looking for soon.

Why?
All the reviews say that it has too much grip for the power, so why fit even sticker tyres?
Do they? The reviews I've seen have pretty much concluded grip is about right. All the reviews say that it has too much grip for the power, so why fit even sticker tyres?
They do suggest any more would spoil/change the character detrimentally though, to the purist who's bought into the new ethos anyway.

It just seems strange to me to add more grip to a car that is supposed to be about being adjustable on the limit.
I agree. It's being brought to market with an expectation that some buyers will modify them, but to add more grip without ramping up the power/torque/whatever is missing the point IMO. It just seems strange to me to add more grip to a car that is supposed to be about being adjustable on the limit.
I'm sure north of 250BHP more grip would be required but to have fun in a RWD 'sports' coupe with 'just' 200BHP grip needs to be rather lower.
For anyone who's interested, there's another 86 website/forum to be had: gt86ownersclub.co.uk as well as ft86club.com where I've seen a few fellow PHers.
