Firstly I'm not a fan of parking sensors, but the ones in my CX-7 are probably the most paranoid I've ever encountered, and are driving me crazy.

I'd like to permanently disable them - not per journey as the button by the handbrake already does that.
Is there simply a fuse that I can remove, or is there something else that I could do?

Edit - oh, and it's the 2008 2.3T petrol model

If they are paranoid, before you permanently disable them, get the programming of them checked. They are a universal kit, designed to fit all of Mazda's models - so everything from the 2 to the CX-7

Because they are fitted in different locations/heights/curvatures on each different model, they have to be programmed (from memory, the base program is a Mazda3 4 door, non sport bumper, no tow bar) and if it's wrong, they go mental. On the early CX-7's, they were fitted by the selling dealer at Pdi, and quite a few dealers didn't bother with the programming element of fitting.

Once set up correctly, they work well - if you need any more information, send me a PM

Aha, my CX-7 (petrol 58 reg) has just started doing this after working OK for years (which suggests they were set up OK). If I get within 10 yards of anything it just has a piercing permanent beep. Excruciating.

I can't find even a mention of them in the manual and don't know about the switch near the handbrake, must check for that.

So did the OP ever get it sorted? I think I'd go for the straight disable to be honest.

Fabulous car in all other ways (except for the Green Taliban CO2 road tax).

Another vote for overly-anxious sensors, although mine fail to detect our low garden wall (sub 450mm) when reversing near to it. Be nice if they did detect it as it's a bd for graunching bumpers...

Anybody else tried the GROM MP3 box - I have one but it keeps turning the radio onto standby. Annoying.

I always found that the rear sensors gave a solid tone even when well away from obstacles in colder weather. Seems that the very moisture rich exhaust confused them and made them exceptionally jumpy.

They are ultrasonic not radar, which doesn't help. Same thing happens with front sensors in traffic jams, with exhaust from cars in front occasionally triggering a paranoid beep.

Hi my sensors go off in heavy rain and given the weather of late it means they on more than off! Does the button with the green light next to the handbrake disable them? I wondered what that button was for!

Well mine are still playing up and driving me mad everytime I pull up at traffic lights.

I actually called in to our new nearby Mazda garage last week and a helpful chap came out to have a look. He reckoned they were an after market fit and yes the button near the handbrake was something to do with it. His guess was a fuse had gone somewhere but he couldn't solve it in the carpark. It's in for a service soon so he said he will sort it out properly then.

Not sure he knew what he was on about though as it is not on always, just when I get within 20 yards of anything! Stupid invention.
