We just bought a 2005 ( 54 ), immaculate in blue, 49500 miles, it's awesome, we paid £2,250, worth looking country wide and travelling for the right one, I say do it, can't see any regrets my self.
Perfect - the right car in the right condition does exist !
I'm looking at a 2006 car for £3700 next week, which I thought was a bargain, is yours a 231?

That's not very helpful or accurate.
Its very accurate and very helpful, you know what else is useful, the search function...

They are cheap for a reason, they're truly awful cars best avoided unless you want to spend more than the car is worth keeping it on the road.

Not really when the search function doesn't work and seemingly hasn't for ages....

Thanks Phil - PM sent.

Good question - any ideas anyone?
I'm just after something that looks good, goes and handles well, has okayish MPG and doesn't cost a bomb to buy - dreaming I know!!
After you've driven an 8, take an RX-7 FD for a spin. Amazing handling and performance, raise the boost a little and you've got supercar performance. A truly fantastic 'driver's' car for the money.

Hi Guys,

I have just recently sold a 2007 Mazda RX8 231. My opinion of the car was that it sounded great, looked great and I personally found the handling good. The lack of torque can be an issue from time to time but when you rev it hard it is good fun.

The reason for selling was purely down to running costs. The combination of costs to keep it going (tax, servicing and fuel etc) was just getting ridiculous and I could not justify paying this.

I recently got myself a mint condition Impreza WRX blobeye and I much prefer this overall. I know the fuel costs are also high but it really is a cracking car!!

Cheers
Craig

Instead of just throwing out the insults why dont you expain why they're so cheap... is it because they're unreliable and cost a fortune to run, or is it beacause RX8 owners are all really generous...

Instead of wrongly accusing others of throwing insults, why don't you explain why you have such a negative view of the RX-8? Is it because you bought a bad one due to lack of research or are you just everyone's favourite pub expert?

I bought a 2007 RX8 Kuro last week, and so far I'm loving it. I'm sure they're one of those marmite cars that people either get on with or don't. I love everything about it (apart from a misted rear lamp that needs to be sorted). Sure it's going to cost a fair bit to run but I love how it drives and that it's a bit of a wild card choice. Can't wait to get the bugger on track and see what it's got - need some practice at rwd driving first though (and will need a couple of jerry cans no doubt) ;-)

I have been looking at one of these as a track car. The point that seems to be missed is that you can buy a decent one with a knackered engine for about £1K, the recon the engine yourself for about £600 or get a recon for £1K - £2K. Stil a good car for the money.
Can I assume this is THE Gregor Marshall? As in Gerry's lad?

its worth spending the extra and going to someone like Haywards where you get the 25k two year warranty that includes drift drag and track use. think they even do porting that takes your rebuild bill up to about £3.5k but gives you a genuine 250hp car

Yep, well, I'm not sure I am THE Gregor Marshall though but I'm definitely Gerry's son - not sure what he would've made of the RX8!!

Started off well, then went into the petty name calling, but bless you for trying.

I'm not stupid enough to buy an RX8, if you need the reasons listing why they're a bad idea then I can't help you.

Any doubts about their reliability or value for money can be answered by taking a look at the article on the home page.

Pretend I put a witty comment here, I've run out of arsed with you.

He would probably suggest an Impreza WRX which has similar engine reliability issues, worse MPG when pressing on and none of the handling finesse of the RX-8.

A valid opinion because I have owned both cars.
