Question about my MIL's car. She has ridiculously dim headlights, candles seriously would be just as effective. Did a quick google and seems a common problem, but I'm unsure if the cause is

a) Eroded connections to the bulbs, or
b) Eroded glass filter in front of the bulbs.

Car has been inspected on more than one occasion, recently by the AA, and can't find any obvious fault, but the headlights remain ridiculously dim.

Apologies if any of the above is a bit vague, but I've not personally given the car a good inspection, planned for this weekend.

Any ideas anyone, anyone had similar issues?

Thanks in advance.

typical japcar thing I'm afraid. I heard it's cos most japanese roads are lit so headlights dont have to be bright like they do on our unlit roads. Might be complete rubbish though!

You can upgrade to the Projector lights of later cars (or may be after market ones I'm not sure - I think theyre standard though): these are very good. No idea price: search ebay

upgrade your wiring - use FAT wires & relay and invest in 120watt bulbs. Obviously not for road use though. wink

add extra earth wire and buy some nightbreaker bulbs or similar (stop buying rubbish off ebay for £1 a bulb!) which is actually far more of an imporvement than you might think.

If you have plastic lenses - Tcut them.

Apart from that, try night vision smile

I have just swapped my original Nissan headlights out for some DEPO ones from Ebay on my Nissan Almera N16 2005 as suggested by some other forums. So far so good, so no technical issues, and the difference in brightness is night and day (excuse the pun). I mean I couldn't see where I was going sometimes, and now they're briliant. I did add some xenon nightbreaker bulbs, which made them even brighter. Anyway, for £100 for the pair you can't go wrong. I used Energised Customs on Ebay. The lights are identical in size and shape, so were easy to fit. They don't come with bulbs, so you need to supply those, nor a motor to control the angle of dip, but you can easily remove this from the original Nissan lights. All in all, well pleased

Hi, I am trying to help my in laws with this very problem which is preventing them from driving at night. If you could possibly supply more detail in what you purchased and from what eBay seller, perhaps an item number as well I would be very grateful. Thx Clive
