yes I should imagine BMW's design team spent all their time in the office playing Angry Birds and then did a rush job on the design in the closing hours, using the first thing that came into their head! Much the same with the MINI designers too it seems..

my eyes!! hurl

I don't want to flood the thread with photos, but Quasimodo also springs to mind!

The 2 series is a neat design though so they're getting things back on track it seems - I've registered an interest with BMW (although I doubt I'll hear from them again if they read PH!). The 2 series may be more of a competitor for the GT86 than the current 1 series is.

This is why I bought it:

The picture shown in the previous post isn't an M135i and although I would have liked BMW to make the M stand out more from other models in the range, the difference in the metal is actually pretty stark as my neighbour has a base model in the same colour in white and it's really a case of night and day in terms of looks. Regardless, when I had the Boxster I thought it looked the part but the BMW is faster and more fun in comparison so for that reason, I would never go the other way again.

Surprisingly I've had a few people come over to me in the petrol station asking about the engine and commenting on the exhaust sound - cold start is supreme. I reckon the A45 AMG is a stunner - I cancelled an order once I watched some videos on-line as I had never heard of the M135i until I started looking up the A45...similar performance and I saved about £4k in the process!

The M135i engine is sublime and sounds great, I bet the car is excellent to drive too and wins hands down on practicality. I guess it is also a good long distance cruiser, especially with the trick adjustable suspension.

I think the M235i will be a great purchase proposition for me in 2-3 years.

BRZ owner.

I considered the M135i briefly, but decided that it is not my kind of car. Too heavy, too cosseting, too many worthless gadgets, too smooth and boring. It's not my sort of car.

What about the BRZ/GT86 decision?

TBH, it was because I prefer the Subaru brand and the BRZ will be rarer. No reason of substance!

I went Toyota as it was meant to be a bit more progressive on the limit and had a couple of extra years warranty. Mechanically the only difference was the rear suspension set up.

Not sure even that was true. I went GT86 because the dealership is closer. silly
Prefer the front end too now though.

I agree that the Toyota front end is more attractive. I do track days and the stiffer front-end of the BRZ is supposed to give better turn-in.

If a GT86 owner fancies a test-drive swop one day let me know; I'd like to try one!

I was very close to getting a BRZ purely for the metallic blue.

Instead I went metallic grey on the GT86.

Pretty much my opinion. Although I haven't drove one wink

Gotta have some feeling and it's just too heavy for that sort of stuff.

I couldn't believe the price of the 235!

Another drawback of the M135i in my experience is the running costs - I'm a fortune on petrol and that's not always pushing it!

Well when I had to get rid of my MR2 for a 4 seater, I'd have loved to get a GT86. I would not let myself test drive it as I'd buy one and I can't really afford one! I had to get the next best thing, a FN2 CTR. Toys, 4 seats and a revy engine and about the same sort of performance. Just wish it had the handling to match the MR2/GT86.

I can get the 135 comments. I've had 260bhp focus STs and I prefer the FN2 for fun factor. Sure the turbos are a fair bit faster but license loosing speeds are too easy and getting the power down a handful.

When the prices come down in a few years I think I'll get the GT86.

It's a lot more money over the GT86 just to carry a surfboard isn't it? hehe

For me it was down to practicality, outright speed and wanting something with a bit more prestige after the vxr.

Sorry, I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at the sheer expense of my own seemingly simple car requirements! For me though it would indeed have to be the 135i or indeed a 235i. To be fair though, I may end up with a 123d coupé; my main requirement in a car, and thus my interest in the GT86, is for handling, rather than power.

Not at all. In all honesty, you'll see a thread of mine in the BMW section from a while back where I basically state that I'm not bonding with the car as I thought I would. The auto is a real change for me, having always had manuals and it does feel heavier and more unpredictable compared to my previous vxr but the sheer rush you get when going from A to B in a straight line is immense.

That said, had I known Subaru were about to release a new STI I would have held off! I'm tempted to keep the BM for 2 years and then see what the trade in would be for one!
