AS Remal said, he didn't keep it long after that trip. He hated the gearbox and the tendancy for it to want to pull into every filling station we passed. (He was coming of the back of a VX 220 it wasn't an every day driver either, only a weekend toy)
It definitely likes a drink.

My other car is a 318d, it does double and sometimes triple the MPG lol.

I easily get between 30 - 40 on the motorway as it's just ticking over.
On normal roads it's bad, but something said to me when I bought it "a 3.7 litre v6 isn't going to be very economical."

Who on earth would think it was?

The fuel consumption was just a contributing factor, as I said he didn't like the gearbox and I think the fact that just after he bought it, second hand, the dealers started giving large discounts on new models to try to boost poor sale figures.
