Hey.

Am looking at one of these. The seller says would take £650 for it as it needs gone asap due to being stored at her parents. It has MOT till end of june.

She states there is a 'small leak' from the gearbox (its a manual)

Anyone have experience with these? Anything i should look out for?

thanks in advance
Pete

For £650 its got to be worth a punt, you could break it and get that back easily if it came to it.

The 2.0 V6 Mivec is a nice motor, sounds lovely and should work well with a manual box, I've only ever been in a 4spd auto and that really didn't do it for me, but the chassis is nice and the front end feels pointy.

A lot of the front end parts are interchangeable with Evo 1/2/3 so some cheeky upgrades can be bolted on easily.

They have similar performance stats to an EP3 CTR so still quick and they look good too, although the front end is a bit gopping!

Oh and I'd wager that the gearbox leak is the input seal on one of the driveshafts, had that with my Colt, £8 from Mitsubishi.

I'm guessing it was pointed out on the other forum, but RUST most of them are screwed which is a shame as they're actually quite good fun.

As a previous owner i would say rust is the biggest problem so lookout for that. Inner wings and above the windscreen are two of the most susceptible areas.

^ Like they said .... rust. I had to scrap mine last year, the chassis was beyond economical repair. Really sad as I'd had it for 18 years, superbly looked after screamer of an engine on only 65000 miles, the bodywork and interior were also as new!!! The problem is as I'm sue we all know already, that they tend not to underseal them in Japan, so, my own stupid fault, I should have done that when I brought it over.

I've had a GPX tip and a GPvR manual. Great car, terrible rot.

Be very careful of spending your money without checking the chassis. The guys on FTOOC are useful - if you are anywhere near Guildford, get it over to mark and Ben at Eurospec 2000 for a once over.

I've been looking to get another one just as a toy as they are now so cheap but I haven't seen a good one in over a year.

Finding one standard is even harder.

You need to make sure it has been undersealed regularly. Used to do mine every year.

Mine will be up on ebay on Thursday. Manual, facelift, gpx with sunroof. Not immaculate but pretty decent.

I think they're underrated cars. They sound lovely and facelift cars especially still look quite nice and distinctive. Quick enough to be fun too.
