Haha. Hate to say I told you so..... I’d imagine they’re even rarer today than they were then!!
Theres a white Jap import one on The Bay currently; on its way over (I think) listed at nearly £7k with c75k miles IIRC

Would be a great car to own and an enjoyable project, but not at £7k. That's DC5 money and I'd rather own one of those personally, or save a touch more and get an FD2!

I test drove one whilst I was at Uni, a 2.0 UK spec narrow body Gen4 and it was good just no where near the mad fun i expected after a blast in a Civic VTI.

I wanted a JDM 2.2 wide body 2WS BB4 couldn't find one near Cardiff and wasn't after a trip to Ireland so bought E30 BMW.

With the JDM front spliter & some BBS RS alloys and perhaps not quite such an extreme suspension drop they can look super cool...

The later 5th Gen cars with the Motegi bodykit can also look good and drive well, though the h22 is getting a bit long in the tooth a K20 type R Prelude would be super

I've always thought that the Prelude was quite a cool car.

Absolutely loved mine, and the EG6 SiR-S I had before that and then the DC5 after it...

Hated my ATR (too raw/loud); the Prelude was about the only Honda that had zero issues with it and never let me down etc... Another one of those, 'really shouldn't have sold it' cars

I have a 5th gen Type S, freshly imported in 2018, absolutely love it. I have also owned a few 4th gens in my time. Overall great cars that in my opinion are under rated.

Here you go guys, pics from a local meet I took it to back end of last year:

I bought the car from Torque GT, a well known Japanese import specialist. They did a short article on my car here: https://www.torque-gt.co.uk/prelude-type-s.html

In terms of cost, prices of Preludes are slowly creeping up in Japan, if you import through someone like Torque GT you are probably looking at prices from around £7k. Much will depend on mileage and condition of course. I suspect you could knock a bit off this by importing one yourself, but that is more work and more risky.

The Type S is a blast to drive, handles amazingly thanks to the ATTS, and in terms of performance is very similar to that of the Accord Type R or Integra DC5 (I have owned both).

If anyone has any more questions, please feel free to give me a shout smile

Gorgeous car @mnaylor; makes me miss what I had all them years ago!

I've been seriously considering importing another EF8 CRX from someone like Torque GT once we're on the other side of this lockdown, but a decent Prelude BB8 Type S could be a serious consideration; something for a weekend toy and to build.

This was mine (the one that 'skinny' had a few pages back; sold is back in 2011 IIRC. This was the 'for sale' info with the work I'd done etc and some pics below also from when I bought it to how it looked when I sold it:

All work carried out by the “Stevie’s” at EightSpeed (www.eightspeed.co.uk) and GrinSpeed (www.grinspeed.co.uk) - Both are well known & respected Honda tuners/mechanics

It has also been recently dyno'd with a reading of 203.5BHP at the flywheel with approx 165ftlb torque (print out in service book); this was without the engine internal modifications. The H22A7 cams are good for a 15-20BHP rise with the Prelude on its OEM ECU; even more when properly tuned.

I bought it with c83.5k miles on it; it’s now just done 90k miles and this will rise but not by much as I work from home (the furthest it goes during the week is to the gym – about 1mile)! Just been to Anglesey and back via Betws Y Coed and the car drove superbly 8)

The car has benefitted from a full rear end re-spray (boot lid, rear bumper and both rear quarters) as well as the side skirts being re-sprayed. There are still a few paint issues to be sorted but they’re not desperate (i.e. wing mirrors and bonnet/front bumper (usual stone chips etc...)

Modifications include:

· H22A5 engine with a fully rebuilt head (head sent away for a professional clean, all valve guides checked, valve seats checked/OEM valves re-lapped and the head was also skimmed to ensure a perfect fit to the block). Internal mods include: Honda Accord Type R H22A7 cams & cam gears, full belt change inc. Gates' timing belt, new OEM Honda head gasket, OEM water pump, new OEM Honda head bolts, new OEM Honda valve oil seals, ADL Blueprint cambelt tensioner, Gates' balancer shaft belt etc... Oil is changed every 3-4months with Fuchs 10W 50 oil and Hamp or OEM Honda filter (all changed & documented at 88688miles)

· Apexi World Sport II cat-back exhaust system with a stainless de-cat (OEM cat included) and a DC Sports stainless 4-2-1 manifold

· OEM Type S air intake with the resonator removed and a K&N panel filter (an AEM long arm (CAI) intake will also come with the car)

· Buddyclub 17" x 7” SF gunmetal alloys (in immaculate condition with NO DAMAGE whatsoever) with blue anodised locking wheel nuts & shod in Toyo T1R 215/45/17 tyres (LOTS of tread left as they’ve only covered c2k miles) - Fitted Feb 2011

· OEM ATR 300mm brake set-up with Ferodo DS2500 pads, Bremtech 300mm slotted discs and HEL braided brake lines (all fitted June 2011)

· Front upper Neuspeed strut brace, rear upper eBay strut brace & brake MS brace

· D2 coilover suspension (ride height and damper adjustable) - Fitted Nov 2010

· OEM ATR H22 clutch and XTD lightened flywheel fitted along with a Goodridge braided clutch line & full MTF gearbox oil change as well as brand new OEM Honda crank seals/drive shaft seals (fitted July 2011)

· Interior mods include: Kenwood CD/USB face-off stereo with Alpine 6x9 rear speakers & OEM front speakers / Prelude car mats / Skunk2 billet gear knob and EK9 gear stick gaitor / Sabelt 350mm suede steering wheel with specific HKB steering wheel boss adpated for 4WS (the OEM steering wheel with cruise control functions & airbag is stored safely and will come with the car)

· Toad Ai606 Thatcham Cat 1 alarm system with spare keys and spare remote fob plus remote start fitted by Barry from Safe’n’Sound (certificate for insurance included)[b/]

All it really needs now is to be tuned properly (i.e. Hondata S300 / ecTune etc...) to get the best out of the engine mods but it runs superbly now, very quick and stops brilliantly too! This ISNT essential though; it would help to get the best out of all the tuning modifications though. The car runs superbly now as it stands (it's stops VERY well indeed also)!

It will be sold ‘as is’ as I’m not looking to split for parts as I can’t be bothered and haven’t got the time.

The car has had THOUSANDS spent on it with very tasteful and useful mods as you can see; it's been well cared for and washed more or less weekly! It is in superb condition and has to be seen & driven to fully understand the work that has gone in to it. It really is a massive amount of car and modifications for the money

And an old forum thread for its build too! Amazing what you can find on Google Images laugh

https://www.preludeonline.com/threads/newbie-from-...

I think another like that; to go alongside my Jap import E39 530i Sport touring would be a great little fleet to own wink

Would love a type S. One of those cars I always came close to buying but didn't follow through.

Stunning car mnaylor!

Do you have any interior pics too please? I'm thinking of getting one as a weekend car when funds allow to complement my daily CL7 Euro R.

I used to have an Accord Type R so am familiar with the engine. VTEC kick in these are more pronounced than the K20, more raw due to the "dip" pre VTEC.

Dan1979 yours looked great too, great choice of individual mods that no doubt brought it alive.

Thanks pal; it was a great car; great to work on too!

It was one of those; shall I sell and shan't i etc? I did because I was offered the monies I was after and I'd already agreed to buy a 'managers spec' MG ZT V6 190 that had a very individual scheme (red alcantara & leather seats, fully heated, XPower grey etc and I was hankering after a less raw and more sensible 4 door car at that time too!

I sold that to buy an ATR, that lasted 3 months and then bought an E38 728i and I've been with BMWs since!

I'd personally rather go for another BB* Prelude than an ATR; no need for 2 4 door cars and I was more of a B road blaster TBH and the PRelude, I always found, suited that very well indeed.... So few for sale now and the ones that are, are either auto or absolute dogs!

I'd rather pay more and get a fresh import that's no rust to deal with and then make it my own from there...

But with what were all going through currently; it's time to sit low, spend little and wait for normality to come back and then top up my savings coffers and then look after all that.

As I run my own Limited Company; it's taken a massive hit (ie no business at all since lockdown); so I'm into my savings now, but fortunately the wife & I save and save well; so cars aren't a priority currently...

Damn you Covid19 laughrolleyes

@d_a_n1979 your old car looks nice. The chassis code for the type S is BB6 and your are right about fresh imports and rust, mine has none, I had it fully undersealed at import and even had the inner arches treated as well.

Occasionally a private car will come up for sale in the UK and be a good one, you just have to be patient.

@Karlsruhe thank you for your kind comments and here is an interior pic:

I have since changed the gear knob to an original type s one, managed to find a used one but it had seen better days so got it refurbished.

Great choice of daily by the way, I wouldn't mind a CL7 as a daily myself! The Type S is strictly a dry weekend and show car for me. I am lucky enough to have a garage so it is protected from the elements at all times.

You are also right about the vtec kick, it is pretty obvious when it kicks in, and sounds great as well cool

Aye that's it, mine was a BB8 4WS version; I even had the fabled RWS locking pin wink Very rare item, came with the car!

Your interior looks stunning, as said, like new!

Deffo food for thought once we're all on the other side of this crisis!

My first two cars were Mk1 Preludes - one had Connolly leather seats!
Sadly, I don’t have any pictures of either car - first was metallic gold, the second in white - the glass sunroof was impressively big for such a small roof area - almost like a panoramic roof iirc.
Then moved on to CRX’s - had two (one VTEC), now have an NSX.
Haven’t seen a Prelude for many years.
