Mr2 Mk2s make great track cars, although they are quite heavy, they will take a lot of abuse and give very little trouble, put a set of ebc yellow stuff pads all round and a set of Toyos 888s and you have a great little track car.
Half a ton lighter than what the guy before you suggested! If you're just out for fun rather than 'beating' other people when it isn't actually a race, I'd just use cheap road tyres and have fun sliding it around without putting the same stress on your brakes and suspension.

Rx7 fc3s turbo 2,
Easy 300hp with minimal mods, rwd and proven well on track and rally in their day.
Don't buy into the whole rotary engines are unreliable myth. Regular maintenance which will be mandatory for a track car anyway and for hard use it will be as reliable as a piston engine.
Btw most rotaries lose compression due to water seals from shoddy maintenance than apex seal wear.
Good luck finding a rx7 for less than £2000 in a decent condition, an FB will be £2500 min, a working FC will be £3-4k for a turbo model.Easy 300hp with minimal mods, rwd and proven well on track and rally in their day.

an Rx8 stripped out should be pretty light and has acceptable power and can be bought for almost nothing these days.
