Just asking a question on behalf of my brother. He bought a mk3 MR2 and proceeded to run it out of oil. Lessons have been learnt! So the question is is it worth rebuilding and are there any renowned rebuilders around the Midlands? Or should he just go for a replacement 2zz VVTLI engine or similar?

All info you need here http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&amp...

A 2zz swap can be done for not a lot more than a full rebuild. Source a good donor car and sell on the shell afterwards and you can have any decent mechanic help you out.

I did mine before my 1zz went bang (excessive oil consumption) and its now the car it should've been from day one.

I bought my MR2, found a very well priced newer T-Sport Celica and had a garage do the swap for me and the whole thing has cost about £3k.

my advice would be to go for it. but depends what you want at the end of the day - forum linked above is a good place to start though.

If you look for MattPerformance on the MR2ROC forum he specialises in engine rebuilds for the mk3, based in the midlands I think!

2zz most straight forward but they ain't bomb proof either.

1MZ-FE is the one i'd go for but not cheap swap.
