Hi I have a Lexus RX 400h with a lot of miles on the clock almost 130k on an 06 plate. On a trip out yesterday car was fine going but on our return to the car found the powered steering had gone south leaving a very lumpy almost mechanical steering no power at all. Very difficult to manoeuvre the car and I live 40 miles from Lexus garage. Car has not been curbed as far as I know.

Reading a few google hits it looks like our car is fully electric steering I.e. No power steering fluids or lines to check?. I have frightened myself to death realising from threads that replacement steering at Lexus can cost 3k and upwards!!

Can anyone advise on the problem or have any experience with this?......I think we might have to cancel Christmas?

From experience it sounds like a faulty steering rack.

There was a recall on them so ring your local dealer and get them to check whether the recall has been done.

Thank you for the note, I have called them and checked and there are no outstanding recalls on the car. Does any one know of any Lexus specialists in North Shropshire area?
