Hi all,

I'm getting a whining coming from my engine every time I start the car. It is there when idle, it does not change pitch when I move up the rev range.

I would describe the noise as a low pitched whine, so still a high frequency compared to say, a growl or a hum, but it is low enough that it doesn't hurt the ears and a Grandad could probably hear it.

Sorry if that doesn't make any sense.

I recently had to put in a standard exhaust and manifold, to pass it's MOT. Not sure if this could have had an effect.

Any ideas? Car is a Type R EP3 2004.

Does it change in pitch when you work the clutch?

Other things are the auxillary belt tensioners, alternator bearing whine, perhaps the pulley for the AC is whining.

Cam chain / cam chain tensioner woule result in a "machine gun" ticky kind of sound
