With importing you've got two main options:
- Get a dealer based in this country to source you a car and sort out all the registration etc. Obviously you'll pay a premium for this.
- Find someone that will sort everything in Japan and then pick the car up from the docks and sort the customs, MOT, registration etc yourself.
I choose the latter and imported through japaneseusedcars.com (they're a trader on the Driftworks forum). You get to pick the car from the auctions yourself and they then inspect it prior to bidding. They provide a great service and are very transparent with their fees unlike some.
Mine is very close to standard with downpipes, sports CAT, exhaust and some brake upgrades being the only performance modifications. Just about to tick over 100,000kms it came with what must be pretty much every invoice from the day it was new and the original registration book/documents.

Can't comment on GTRs, but another vote for Newera.
The cars are hand picked by Miguel, who deals with the entire process for you in Japan, from buying the car to it leaving on a boat.
They can modify the cars to any spec you'd like whilst it's in Japan, obviously you get genuine parts, and avoid import taxes that you'd get charged bringing the parts over here.
The entire registration and MOT process is taken care of by RK Tuning on behalf of Newera, who are one of the best Skyline tuners in the country (according to my GTR owning friends).

JM-Imports are very good, not cheap but they really do get some fantastic examples.
I've never bought a car from Jurgen and the guys at JM but I get my S15 serviced there and can't fault them. All the R32s I've seen in there have looked amazing and when I come to import a R32 or R33 I'll be going to them first.Torque GT tend to get rave reviews as well.
