Hi folks,
Newbie here.
Just wondering what your thoughts were on whether to scrap or repair a 14 year old nissan micra k11 that is in reasonable condition

while changing the c.v boot, I must have got a bit carried away and damaged the gearbox as the car will no longer go into gear. The gearchange will work but does not engage the driveshafts.

Should I scrap it or look at getting the gearbox fixed?

Many thanks in advance for any information/opinions

Did you jack it up on the gear linkage? I would get someone who knows stuff to have a look.

Thanks for the reply bud.
U jacked the car up on the subframe and had it on had axle stands under the subframe.

After I reconnected the drive shaft, I turned the driveshaft manually and heard a rumble coming from where the drive shaft goes into the gearbox and then it stopped rumbling. Tried putting it in gear but the driveshafts don't seem to want to engage in the gearbox..boo hoo

Assuming that you took the drive shaft completely out, how much force did it take to get it back in? Are you sure it's fully engaged?

Thanks for the reply Paul

After I jacked the car back down onto the ground,. for some strange reason the driveshafts engaged with the engine again
I may have miss aligned something in the gearbox while banging the driveshaft back in. Then it realigned itself when back on the ground

Thanks for all your help folks

I suspect that the drive shafts weren't fully engaged, and were pushed in further as you lowered the car off the jack. Glad you got it sorted though.
