Civic Type S vs Lancer GS3/GS4

Evening all,
I'm looking for some advice reference the two cars in the topic title. I know it's away from the normal fast Japanese stuff normally discussed on here but I was hoping there may be some experience of the types.
I need a diesel for work and I'm looking to spend around £6000. I've come down to the Lancer and Civic but don't know which one to plump for.
On the one hand, I like the Civic as it's renowned for reliability, looks good and there are plenty around (for parts and garages). I like the Lancer for its rough looks however, I don't know what they are like for reliability. They do use a known VW diesel so that's a good point. However they are like rocking horse s
t up in Scotland so I'm finding it hard to find one without travelling miles down South.
Can anyone shed any light or give some advice. It would be much appreciated.
