They have an awful reputation with BiB here,

I've been stopped twice by the BiB whilst driving through town, slow moving traffic, young driver, unusual car, lets waste his time for 20 minutes

Fantastic fun down the lanes though

Its a bit late now, but if anyone is interested in the above mentioned resto project, it could easily be combined with this. I am sure something good could come of it.

If I had the £$£$ and the space, they'd be mine.

Looking at the pics,I think a grands worth of restoration would be a little optimistic-although I do remember someone posting that they had an AE86 shell here

A good mate of mine is currently in the midst of finishing up his AE86 project.

Its got a wide-body kit and will have a twin turbo'd lump from the Mk1 MR2 supercharger in it.

i'll make sure he posts some pics when its finished, you'll certainly notice it, its metallic tango orange!

Take a peak at this AE86

I don't know if "drifting" is frowned upon by the PH collective, but the above car has been stripped down to the shell and been rebuilt to a very high standard. Its immaculate, absolutely gorgeous apart from the Lamborghini doors (which have now been removed) and the black bonnet.

Right, the next half decent shell that comes up on eBay is mine!!

Very impressive amount of work there, not fond of the lambo doors, don't suit the type of car, imo.
Its amazing how every other corrola of that age is only worth <>£200.00 odd,but if you get an AE86 GT people will pay big money & put in that much effort into restoring/modding/tuning them
Anyone know their AE86 stuff?
Are the subs & chassis etc completly different on one?-what I'm getting at is;could someone get a,say corrola exec or gl 1600,tune it up a bit & add suspension mods.Would it drive, drift much the same?

How about this one?

I race one.

They are fun but there are many better cars out there, especially for the money.

I have a spare scruffy shell available if somebody wanted a restoration project. I also have loads of old parts lying around if anyone gets stuck.

Once again, months behind the rest of the topic but this has come up for sale on ebay from another GT4 owner (well, his brother) and seeing as they are so rare, I thought I'd inform you all.

Anyone still looking for one??

A couple of pictures at www.r-spec.co.uk/forsale/ae86/

Wouldn't be suprised if it reaches 5k when the auction finishes.

Are the modern versions any good? And still rear wheel drive?

It's just that there are loads of these kicking around over here.

Wedge, whats the Oz $$$ worth in UK £££'s these days?
AFAIK that model is rwd.
Ppl in the UK are getting away with asking daft ca$h for these(esp the Treuno,pop-up lights version)in any condition,so £2k still doesn't seem too bad, imo.
This may just be the photo, but if you look at the radiator hanger bar, then the rest of the engine bay.Compare colours-don't seem to match.

Wedge, that model isn't rear wheel drive.

The AE86 is like the Japaneese MkII Escort. The AE101 (the car you have posted the link to) is more akin to the MkV Escort. Chalk and cheese!

The one on eBay has been resprayed, most of them need to be, I know mine does!

Hmmm

I am quite tempted (althouhg the trip up to Perthshire is putting me off quite quickly) as I have just had a very good quote for insurance (£200 cheaper than the 'Four!)

What do you think elephant would class this as?? I thought Corolla GT Coupe import would cover it?? Any suggestions??

Tuttle - it's about 2.6 at the minute, so a $2000 car would be well under £1k. I'm still getting paid in sterling at the minute which helps with these things

Graham - I thought that might be the case I see loads of Trueno's & Levin's selling for peanuts and thought they might make a cheap 'fun' car. Maybe not...

Just spotted this on the same website. Currently around $5000 (about £1800), so still not cheap.

Looks like a dodgy deal. Reserve was met before this morning (£2k), but minutes before the auction was due to end the seller cancelled all bids and withdrew the action. Got my hopes up for nothing
