Has anyone owned or driven one? I'm interested to hear thoughts on your experience! I'm tempted to take a punt on one; classic 80's JDM wedge shape, reliable and rather rare! I believe they are roughly 180BHP as standard. However being turbo powered, is it fairly easy/cheap to extract some more power?

The one negative comment mentioned on the HonestJohn website is something along the lines of, "not everyone likes drifting", which is probably the best negative comment I've ever seen. I don't intend to use it for drifting though!

Any thoughts appreciated! smile

Hope that helps.
They're rare now, I know where a rolling shell wide body is which is fairly solid and might be for sale. Ideal material for an EVO engine transplant.

I had a white Widebody 1988 model 2.0 when I was 19 years old. It was only 3 years old.
Far trumped my mates Golf GTI, Nova GTE etc.
Standard it was 180bhp, but like mine was chipped and boosting higher with 240bhp. It was a hell of a quick car in them days.
Nice and smooth. Quite an old style engine, no fancy multi valves just a turbo and intercooler.
Fitted out well and we'll made. Stunning looks.
My dad had a nearly new G reg 2.6 model which was the last made.
Identical to look at but only 159 bhp with huge torque designed I think for unleaded.

There's a buying guide in this months PPC magazine, I read it just this lunch time, could be worth picking yourself up a copy.

Bloody hell, I remember when Joe was into his lancer turbos, way back when in the early 90s . He's done alright for himself it would seem.

I absolutely loved mine, sold it a couple of years ago after about 6 years of ownership.

It was pretty painless ownership to be honest, mechanically it was sound and very little ever went wrong on it. I think I had a brake caliper fail on me, the alternator pack up, and the MAF sensor hose come loose and that was it mechanically.

I took it from 118,000 miles to almost 150,000 in that time, and it was my daily driver for at least 3 or 4 years. The one major problem with them these days is rust. That was a constant battle with mine, and I eventually sold it to someone to restore as I simply didn't have the time to do it myself.

Great fun to drive though, plentiful performance and got a huge amount of attention. Mine had a custom exhaust system which wasn't particularly subtle, but that simply added to the drama!

As an accountant I did sometimes get some interesting looks whilst this was my daily driver biggrin

Wasn't so great in the snow though...
