I'm looking to buy a Suzuki ignis sport as a wee run around to help keep the miles off the Scooby and cut the fuel costs down a wee bit.

is there any weak points or anything expensive to look out for when buying these?

thanks in advance

I've heard the top mounts go, they're only cheap but hard to get hold of I think. That's what I found out when I was looking to buy one, hope that helps.

Oddly enough, I bought one as a runabout on Monday. I bloody love it!

Had mine a few months - cracking little cars. Not much to worry about on them, but check the following:

1) Rear wheel bearings are a pretty common issue (listen out for rumbling, or if you can jack the thing up and make sure the wheel rotates freely with no excess noise/resistance), although you buy these as a whole hub unit so pretty easy to replace.
2) Check that the oil sump isn't rotten, if it's OK then make sure you put some sort of protection on it once you've bought the car!
3) As previously mentioned, front top-mounts can wear out, especially if the car has been lowered. Monster Sport used to do an uprated part but it was discontinued, however there has been enough interest to get another batch made up in the coming weeks - around £80 for the pair to replace, which is still a lot cheaper than getting the standard part from Suzuki!

Apart from that it's a chain-driven engine and they're not overly stressed, so as long as the servicing is kept on top of they should run and run. The plastic bodykit panels are pretty rare now and expensive so make sure they're in good nick as you won't want to be forking out for replacements!

If you get a good one it'll have you grinning from ear to ear though biggrin

Make sure your rear brakes/calipers are alright.

You cannot buy replacements. Anywhere. I had to get mine refurbished and don't have the luxury of a 2nd car, was a total ball ache especially when MyHermes lost them in the post...

Anyway, other than that they seem pretty solid and reliable. Just find a well looked after, lowish mileage and non-modded/chavved example and I suspect you'll really enjoy it.

I'd be tempted to sell you mine but I haven't bought a car to replace it with yet! (need a bigger car (SAAB 9-3 estate or a WRX wagon or something for work and moving house with).
