Bringing a 1971 Hako GT-R into the UK in the next few weeks. It's ready to board a ship in Tokyo. I'm going to document the process and restoration so will share some updates here.
'Jap Chat' is a bit of quiet backwater, mostly concerned with later stuff.

Can I respectfully suggest you at least open a parallel thread on the 'Classic Cars & Yesterday's Heroes' forum section on Pistonheads? The S20-engined cars are - I think - extremely interesting and quite exotically-specced for their time, and deserve a closer look and wider recognition.

I've signed up for your blog. Good luck!

I'd be more than happy to start a parallel thread and I shall keep both updated as the story progresses. Thanks for following the blog too, it won't be super technical (or particularly well written) but I'm hoping it's interesting to a few people.

oh dear, just had a little sex wee.

You must have paid top dollar for that, I hear its getting increasingly hard to win Jap auctions for 'older' stuff as the Japs are starting to realise what they have and are keeping hold of them.

It's definitely tough to get a "bargain" but there's a fairly wide spectrum of cars available. I'd say mint cars are pushing up towards £150k landed here, but projects, restorations a bit lower.

There's never a discount over there either! No negotiations.

I know people who are after PS13, 180SX, S13, S14, S15, and the prices are going silly - no where near the same level as yours, but more than they were recently

Yup, Japanese market catching on/up here???

I'm blogging about the experience - just about to go into the import details in the next couple of posts. If it's useful, pass it on https://hakosukablog.wordpress.com/

Oh sheeeeeet!

Now that's a motor and a half! Love these, yet have never seen one in person. Fantastic purchase as they really are fetching a lot of money and the price is still increasing, proper Jap classic. First time I've ventured into Jap Chat (I'm a Jap newbie..) and this thread caught my eye straight away, just fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more updates thumbup

Guys, you can definitely negotiate prices in Japan. I live in Hong Kong and visit Japan every couple of months in a sales position and negotiation on price is expected. The asking price is usually indicative of what the seller is expecting, but they expect a 'best price' when buying and will almost always consider offering you the same when you ask.

Are you planning on doing any 'rust proofing' ?
