18 months into ownership I have found my Evo X SST reasonably sensible for running costs.
Tyres, brakes and routine servicing all around expectations.
I am surprised to be quoted £450 to change the spark plugs!

I would guess that was from a main dealer rather than an independent? Whereabouts are you located? Lots of good traders around that can work on the Evo X, have a look on www.lancerregister.com
If you live "up North" I'd recommend TRL in Halifax, there's also Autotorque near Aylesbury, and IndigoGT in South Wales.

My mistake.
The quote was for the whole service. £450 incl. VAT.
It is a Ralliart dealer and as I am some way from civilisation and they are my nearest garage by far, I like to use them.
Thanks for your reply.
Evos are a bit of a niche on PH. When I ran TVRs, the threads were red hot - a bit like the cockpits...

I can see that Evos are something of a minority interest here.
Nonetheless I shall persevere.
AYC pump ( anti yaw control ) £2k to replace!
I kid you not.
Mercifully covered by warranty but what are Mitsubishi thinking when they have a component that costs 6% of the price of the new car? Buyers of these aren't billionaires.
Are there further horrors in store?

If I wanted a Jap 4 door car I would go for a Subaru. YMMV.
Wearing a blue and yellow jacket isn't compulsory... wink

Thanks for the links. Good stuff on there.
I have to confess my X is painted in a very STi blue, albeit with black wheels!

The AYC pump failure affects a fair percentage of Evos of many ages. There are companies who can repair them for £600 or thereabouts when the car's out of warranty. The cars are generally a very reliable prospect when looked after, especially considering how many continue to perform without issue after being asked to handle heavy increases in hp.

The AYC pump on a X is very exposed, it gets a lot of road debris and salt thrown onto it which causes corrosion. they can be rebuilt as has been said previously for about £600. Autotorque do a relocation kit which moves the pump into the boot area and so prevents them becoming corroded.

This is very helpful information.
If my AYC pump was out of warranty I'd be hunting around for a sensible price.
Autotorque have an impressive homepage. Good pointer. Thanks.

Going back a bit, i think they had a recall on the active yaw control units on the evo 4/5/6's due to faults, having to trawl through the grey matter for that one so info on the recall could be a little hazy.

My Ralliart dealer reckons that the AYC pump is the weakest link on the Evo, bar none.
The warranty replacement has a more durable and corrosion resistant casing so I'm hoping it will 'see me out.'

Waxoil it or something equivalent if it's going back in the standard location.
