I've been drooling at these https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan%20car/...

I was on the verge of emailing some importers to understand the costs, but then I discovered import duty on pick ups is 22% for some reason, so that was that.

But I'm still curious as to whether you can register one in the Uk, just out of interest really. I don't know anything about importing, is it just a case adding a fog light and one of these would go through IVA, or is there more to it?

It will need an IVA, there is one local to me I see every so often.

I've heard mention of model reports. I'm not sure when they are required, or if one would b needed in this case.

They are very capable looking vehicles. Do these have a 4.0 NA engine? I was in australia in 2014 (Darwin) where 8 out of 10 cars appeared to be 79 land cruisers. The most recent cars I think had a 4.5 turbo v8 diesel I think.

The newish ones in Japan are 4.0 V6 petrol, front and rear diff locks as standard, manual transmission. Some have a factory winch, and there is a double cab pickup version that looks particularly good. They are a 30th anniversary special edition only available for about 12 months ish on 2015.

I contacted an importer and they reckoned about £29k all in on the road in the uk for the 5 door wagon. Import duty might be higher on the pickup.

So many of these were scrapped in Afghanistan.
