Impreza STI to R34 GTT
Discussion
Hi
I've a 2005 STI at 320hp, it's a fantastic car, and I love it. But I cannot get over my lust of a skyline. I've always wanted an R34, I can't afford a GTR, so a GT-T it is.
Has anyone driven both or similar?
My worry is that the skyline will seem a bit "normal" by comparison. I quite like the comedy lag and stupid torque that you get with an Impreza, add in it's back road capabilities and it makes for a fun drive. I don't want to lose the "fun" element.
Any advice appreciated, or opinions.. it's good to talk

I don't think a slightly tweaked R34 would be " normal ". anything but I've a 2005 STI at 320hp, it's a fantastic car, and I love it. But I cannot get over my lust of a skyline. I've always wanted an R34, I can't afford a GTR, so a GT-T it is.

personally, I like the R33 over the R34. I think the shape is so much nicer. but having said that, a R34 in bayside blue would be a nice car to have.

Well that's a promising start....
The R34 will certainly be tweaked
I am looking at the R33 GTR as an alternative. However, I don't think I can deal with the "time warp" interior. They're bad enough as it is on the newer cars. Also, for everyday use, I'd feel guilty putting miles on a GTR.

nice R34 here - http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C686499
Lovely, but as per the OP - GTT model as I cannot afford an R34 GTR.rb5er said:
The Impreza is a great car, I doubt the R34 will feel as light on its feet but its nice to have a change every now and then and I believe lots of power is easily extracted.
Go and drive one and decide which you think is best.
If only there were such cars available to test drive. Go and drive one and decide which you think is best.
The R34 will most likely seem like a lardy bd following an impreza. However as you mention, more power is available and you're not lugging around a 4wd system. In terms of simple speed, I suspect the skyline will do better with less modification.
Being serious I wouldn't bet on it being that dull, the GTT's (and the R33 GTST's before) are very light in feel to alot of cars due to their RWD.
Although you're probably used to it with the Impreza but the feeling through the front is abit blunted from the 4WD on the GTR's. Although as I said in another thread this could be the opinion of people who couldn't afford a GTR
Are you close to the Hampshire? If you want I can take you out in my 33 GTST and you canlaugh at the plastics get a sense of it? Mine is completely standard so you'd be seeing it "as Nissan intended"

Don't worry about petrol, I'd be using it anyway
Let us know how to get on at the weekend, also sign up to the SOC - http://www.skyline-owners-club.com/forums/forum.ph... there are a number with tidy GTT's who can give you owner experience. Finally the club will be on show at Japday at Coombe on the 14th so you can come and have a poke around a complete selection

Congrats sir! you now own a legendary piece of automotive history Have you put pictures up on the "show us" thread here? If not, put them here! Make sure you sign up to the Skyline forums tons of help for modding (if you want to take that route) or if anything does come up.
The Skyline smile hasn't left me after 10k and 12months of ownership, I put in the "cars you love" thread about how I cannot stop enjoying driving. I also cannot believe how far ahead of the times my GTST was/is, everyone is all about the numbers these days but even now it takes some serious systems/power/£££'s to outpace them. Although mine is older than your GTT I will always think at least once "is this seriously a 20yr-old-plus car?".
Wish you many happy miles of Skyline ownership ahead of you Are you planning on attending any shows? If you are near Hants then you have Japday at Combe on Saturday or if for abit of breathing space then there is the Bromley Pagent & Simply Japanese is a nice small one at the start of August (venue: Bealieu motor museum). In our club we have space on our stand still I think

I'll get a thread and pics done in due course. Far too busy driving it at the mo The Skyline smile hasn't left me after 10k and 12months of ownership, I put in the "cars you love" thread about how I cannot stop enjoying driving. I'm on all the forums, have been for years but I tend not to post, just read the information that's there.
I'm already looking into remaps It goes well, but could be better.
I'd love to come to the shows, however I've just found out I need to move house, so annoyingly I suspect proper car plans will be on hold. At least I got the buying part done though
Don't suppose you can recommend any decent Skyline specialists? I'm finding my local specialists a little on the unhelpful side.

If you're in the hants area I use Horesham Developments near Newbury. They are primarily a 200SX specialist but because alot of those guys put RB's in their cars Horesham are well versed in those engines too

For buying guides you're right there is not much about for the R34 GTT's, here's the best I can come up with;
http://www.skyline-owners-club.com/forums/showthre...
This is an overall Skyline info page
http://www.skyline-owners-club.com/forums/showthre...
and finally here is a R34 GTT tuning guide

I'm central Bedfordshire sort of way, but I gave them a call. They gave quick, simple and useful advice so the car is booked in for mapping and dyno time I'm still waiting for others to call me back http://h-dev.co.uk/
That was sort of the experience I got, but my issue was because mine was standard. Abbey (who are meant to be the best) didn't want to know and were very shirty on the phone because I wasn't modding mine up (why they put "servicing" on their website I don't know) so I've written them off too.
When I was at Horsham's the guy who had just finished mine was listening to a 200SX engine he'd just rebuilt being tested as it was now running something obscene like 700bhp+!!! I've got to go back their soon for my cambelt & this year's service
