Hi All,

I'm just about to part with my E92 M3 because I cant stop thinking about these Nissan Silvia's/Skyline's. I'm itching to get one but I've never purchased a Jap car before so I want to make sure I am looking in the right places.

Pretty much every garage I've come across that sell Jap cars have horrendous reviews and I'm starting to wonder whether or not there are actually any trustworthy JDM garages out there.

It wouldn't be an issue for for me to buy privately if I knew what to look for when buying a new car. Like I said I'm new to the scene and part of this whole process for me is to learn how to mod/fix/maintain my car myself. I feel like I want something that I can make my own and be proud of.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Where can I find the car I'm after?

Thanks smile

A lot of info is available over on gtr.co.uk, for Skylines at least.

A few dealers with a good reputation include Torque GT, JM Imports, The GTR Shop and at the more expensive end of the market, New Era.

Echo the above, especially the two in bold. I got my GTS-T from Torque. If you're near Hants/Dorset I can take you through mine if you like?

If you're interested in Silvia's then try here - http://sxoc.com/vbb/forum.php

I think they still have regular meets at the Vue Longwell green, but there are a load of owners around Bristol.

I know of a said to be very nice S15 for sale. The cars had £30k spent on it, all sort of goodies. Was pxd to one of the bigger SX tuners for a big build Evo. He has just received it. I'll get more info but basic spec:

AP Tuning engine
Greddy top port plenum
Mazworks kit
GT30 turbo
OS Giken 5 speed box
Twin plate clutch
KSport brakes
Rota wheels

That is literally the exact car I'm after. Prices of those are usually around 10k right?

I dont know what hes wanting for it, Ive asked. A near standard one might be around £10k but I dont imagine £10k would buy you one with 30 grands worth of receipts. Its also running 1000cc Asnu injectors, 450-500bhp, Tein coilovers, Apexi DJetro ECU. Engines running steel rods, forged pistons, Tomei cams and springs and Id assume an aftermarket steel headgasket.

£15k at a push I reckon looking at what other ones are for sale currently

The whole 30k just spent has no bearing imo you never get mod money back sadly

I was going to say around 15k with that spec (450-500bhp doesn't come cheap on an SR20) but sadly yes, spending 30k on a Silvia doesn't make it worth that kind of money. There's only so much people will spend on an S-body.

I haven't looked at Skyline prices recently but last time I did it you wanted a nice GTS-T it'd be 4-5k and GTR's (R32) were about 20k+?

Thanks for all of your guys help. I have been looking at skylines but the more I look the more I feel set on getting an S-Body. I'm looking around every day for new adverts. I love how small the car is I can just see myself in one of those a lot more than I can a skyline.

I don't think I'd spend 15k on a Silvia though and to be honest a an S-Body that's already that modded kind of defeats the object of me getting one. I want to mod it myself and learn during the process.

I'm still hoping a battered/needs work S13 is going to appear within my budget some day soon

If you want my honest opinion, buy one pre-modded, at least with the basics (coilovers, FMIC, Brakes etc) as it'll save you a lot of money. Standard cars are rare and you'll pay a lot for one just to then remove the actual worth of it being a standard one.

My pick would be an S14a, Black with Cream leather. Lovely car and they look superb IMO.

I agree re the modding if its been used as a drift pig or similar but this one looks looked after, I'd buy it if I had £15k for an S body strip any mods you don't want and sell them, parts fly off the helves for these and would go towards mods you want

Hmm yeah that's true. 15k is a bit out of my budget though. I have to buy two cars. One daily and one for fun smile.

Where are you from?

My aim is to keep running my boring celica as a daily and get an S13 drift missile for fun/hooning
