£900? Wow. Even at twice that I'd be quids in from selling my MX-5. There does seem to be a big spread of prices out there, though.

Do you have any sort of warning when the oil level is getting low? I have no problem with the idea of it consuming a certain amount (as I understand it, rotaries do so by design) but I'm not the most conscientious car owner and I can imagine I'd forget to check.

There is a low oil level light (as opposed to a low oil pressure light) but you don't really want to see it. You soon get used to how much it uses and when to check it.

I pick mine up in the morning! Test drive confirmed all received wisdom about joy of handling, gearshift and buzz of revvy smoothness. Excited kid again. Rain forecast all day....

I did find it a touch skitish in the wet on the original Bridgestone RE040's, especially on the brakes.

Am expecting such but won't be exploring edges of grip on first full acquaintance!

Bought mine as a hillclimber for £1600 - 135,000 miles, engine done 7,000 ago (only the first time it seems).

I'm really pleased with it. Even on lower springs and with a de-cat its really civilised. If it did 10 mpg more I'd happily use it every day.

I've just bought an RX8 (231) and I absolutely love it, I can't believe how much car you get for the money.

Edit - apologies, I don't know why the picture has rotated, and I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks, like I said, I'm really pleased with it.

I actually don't know whether the splitter is an aftermarket fit, or whether it was standard when new. Either way, I think it looks really good.

What do you get from it (in road use)?

Tyre wise I would get the Verdestien ultrac sassanta. Get from Camskill.

I sprint my 231PZ and can honestly say the tyres hold up very well and for £65-70 per corner it's a bargain.
Get used to checking oil levels every 2nd fuel fill, that way you'll never have a problem. Mine gets checked every 4 fill ups as I know it don't use that much.
I also run Motul R600 brake fluid and standard Pagid pads. This seems to be rock solid on track.

If you are anywhere near Brands hatch next Friday we're at a Mazda track day so you could pop along and have a chat with the RX8 owners club boys

I've not really tested it properly.

I have a long run coming up on Saturday with a mix of motorway and city. I'll report back!

I bought one as a track toy nearly a year ago. Best £1500 I've ever spent.

Put some money into her as it looked like she'd been maintained on a shoestring prior to my ownership, but I'm probably only another £1500 in including consumables and it still feels like a bargain considering the fun I have on track.
