I'm religious about keeping the MR2 on MY side of the road and not crossing the white stuff (unless overtaking), so I never cut corners.

Driving through a bit of Industrial estate today I came to a small but very sharp bend. I've been through there numerous times but today I wasn't 100% with it - I didn't brake sufficiently before the corner and lazily lifted off before the bend. I made my usual, neccesarily sharp (yet precise ) steering input to get me round the bend without cutting it...

And the back end stepped out just a tad before pulling back into line when I put my foot down again.

It was lovely.

I wanna do it again!

Don't know what the reason is for religiously sticking to your side of the road is, if you can see the road ahead is clear and you're not obstructing anyone else then there is no reason not to cross onto the other side of the white lines, especially if it offers a more direct route through a series of bends.

Yes yes yesssss I know all that. Been through it numerous times with various people. The term "religious" was perhaps a bit too strong.

As a general rule, though, especially where I live on roads where you usually can't see what's around the bend regardless of where you position yourself, it's a bad idea. I believe this is why Captain Plod will quite happily issue three points for crossing white lines (or taking racing lines for that matter)!

I also like making my life more diffcult for myself because giving myself a tighter line means I have to reign the car in more - Have you noticed the number of people who cut corners or cross the centre markings just because they can't be arsed to control their cars properly?

Of course it didn't quite go according to plan today, but I've almsot been run off the road a few times by those lazy f**kers.

Yeah i'd agree with that, Also annoys me when people cut corners on junctions, because you know full well that they will just get so used to doing it that they'll do it when someone is waiting there one day and take the front of their car with them.

Still don't understand the white line thing. You're being harder on your tyres, using more fuel/brakes through slowing down and driving less smoothly by taking the long way round the corner. If you can see that the way is clear, take the natural line.

Read the whole thread?

It should make sense if you have.

Nope. Still makes absolutely no sense at all.

Why would you want to reign your car in and make it more difficult to drive? I can't work that out. Do you think it makes you a better driver. Do you shuffle the wheel through your hands when you're attempting to catch your oversteer moment? Perhaps you could deflate your tyres completely to further reign your car in and make it more difficult to drive. Then you really would be impressing everybody with your mad skillz.

Now it sounds like you're just trying to be a bit of an irritating cock. Not sure if that's deliberate but still...
