Because they drive on loose surfaces.

Nitrous is good for drag racing and nothing else.

Thats not my point... My point is that nitrous takes advantage in the same way that turbo's do. Where and how they are used is not an issue.

But a turbo works all the time, nitrous for 10 second bursts making the latter somewhat pointless, a decent turbo installation is a much better engineering solution.

Guys, can we stick to the topic here? Maybe you should post a thread Turbo Vs Nitrous and 2wd Vs 4wd...I want to know if I can replace my Tuscan with an Evo FQ300 or if that is the silliest idea on earth!

Strange idea I know, but how about shortlisting the cars you might consider, eg Exige and Evo + whatever else and test drive them? That way you can make your own mind up. The 2 cars you mention are so different in charactor, power delivery, handling and image that I'd imagine a test drive in each may swing you one way or the other. Whichever you get it'll be better than the Trevor so you are on to a winner

Gearboxes are very weak, other than that they are a good car. I love sport 350s

You are probably best asking smiffy, as he's had a Griff 500 and replaced that with an Impreza P1.

Why do you want to replace the Tuscan?

How did you know I was lurking

They're two very different cars. Personally I think the P1 is ballistic compared to the Griff, unless you're on a smooth A road. The P1 slows fairly dramatically after 100/120 mph where the Griff would still be pulling hard. If I had to be somewhere 100 miles away RIGHT NOW, I'd take the P1 every time.

I've been fully seduced by the powers of the East and wouldn't go back - but it's all down to preference.

OK, that's more like it...

Now...we can get back to the debate about 4wd, 2wd, Nitrous and Turbos...personally I think that anyone who is out there looking to buy a car that is as fast on the road as it is...

Just kidding guys...

what?

WHAT?!?

As for pricing - with the IX coming out, and they had £1000 off and 3 years free servcing with new models, used prices have slumped somewhat - expect to pay around £20k-£22K for a good 2 year old one.

Blatant plug but I have a 53 plater with 16k miles for £20k in my showroom.

Someone who will take my TVR for a good price has one for 20K with 7,000 miles...

I want to replace my TVR because I want something that handles in the wet, is cheaper to run and because I change cars every year...

Ah! I've spotted the flaw in your plan.

Evos/Scoobies are thirsty beasts and Evos need servicing every 4500 miles.

Indeed. A turbo nutter Jap rally car is not a cheap thing to run at all.

...My TVR has had 5 services (big ones cost £1200 small ones £600) in 14,000 miles, covers a maximum of 150 miles on 56 litres of optimax and so far has cost me and the previous owner between 3 and 5K a year on repairs and parts (such as clutch costing £1300 and an engine rebuild, which I don't know the cost of!)...and we have both been told that "it is a good one"!

Do you still think an Evo will cost me more? I cover about 6,000 miles a year and keep my cars for a year...believe me, 2 oil changes will be the least of my problems in terms of cost by comparison...

OK OK. You are one of the few people who could buy an Evo because it is 'more economical'

If anyone argues that a TVR is cheaper than a rice rocket they needed trailing off to the loony bin.

I never got out of the garage with a major service less than £1k on the Griff with even minor services costing £500-£600.

Then you have the time to time costs such as engine rebuilds, suspension rotting through, air con failure etc. which are undoubtedly not covered under the pony warranty you get.

With the P1 most things are covered under warranty. Usual exceptions of clutch, brakes etc but no quibbles over other items.

Services - Cost around £150 for a minor and up to £400 for a major. But it really is £400. On the scoob it's every 6500 miles. On the new scoobies it's every 10k.

Fuel economy - like that really counts. But I get around 18-22 mpg. Sure it drops to single figures if you track it, but so did the Griff.

If you're looking at running costs the jap brigade win every time.

depends on the TVR and the japanese car, doesn't it. my skyline costs a lot more to insure and service.
