Its a mk1 GTO [auto], im not really bothered about power as such, im just really after a sound that puts a bigger smile on my gob.
The first 3 things I could think of: [typical stage1]
new induction kit and y pipe
de-cat
some kind of exhaust but not sure who to go to

I've got enough power for now [still student 24], so there's 0 point upgrading to another car for a fair while yet [+ i love these cars anyway], so its a couple of things like above just to increase the width of my smile VIA cool sound :D

I'll take a look at their stuff, is it the usual sort of price for one of their systems... £500ish ?

ah yes I've read about them over at the gtouk site, well at the moment im flat out broke, but hopefully next week i'll either be selling my golf or working with my dad, but the golf has to go anyway.
If you can mail me how much your wanting for one, I'll see if I have the funds at the time.

However, the only thing I did want is a slashed oval pipe either side, but you know if those mongoose exhausts sound cool, then I dont mind for now

And then a bit.

The single pipe Blitz for my car was well over 500 quid. Would the GTO not need twin pipes at the back?

yeah imo it definatly needs one pipe either side since it has cutaways for them.

Well I have a good friend who knows a fair bit about cars, so we'll both go down to a place in bournemouth that does good work, and I'll see what I can find out.

What will make more of a difference to sound...
a new manifold like "3SX NA LONG Headers Set"
www.3sxperformance.com/exhaust-na.asp

Or new exhaust ?

Im after a gurgly sound.

I think the 250GTO is best left standard.

(just thinking about if this post was in the Italian section).

Those Max Power type Powerflow exhausts always sound good - Think they actually shape the exhaust to create a specific sound. Of course, this could mean you end up with a terrible exhaust with pathetic airflow, but hey...

im told the one in bournmouth is good, and that most of the others are crap.
I'll probably leave the manifold alone for now tho.

It must depend on where you live!

Must admit I have used the Yeovil branch(Seargents) a couple of yrs ago & they did a custom exhaust & a stealth No2 gas kit. Both jobs were 1st class, imo.Work done was very good,my only complaint would be that the 'zorst 'tone' was a bit 'droney'<-is that a real word?

certainly is a word...

How on earth do engines "gurgle" ?

A chap in the states did some little clips of his 700bhp GTO, and that sounded good, most of the ones over here didn't sound that appealing to me.
Bit weird eh ?

its all down to the manifold/down pipe lengths.
Scooby flat 4's only sound the way they do thanks to unequal unefficent manifolds, which creates the burble.
FTO's sound very different depending on which exhaust/manifold/downpipe has been fitted so your best chance is to find a GTO note you like and ask the owner.
Generally the more equal length of the pipework and the more free flowing the louder(deeper) the note.

hmm.

so it IS going to be a combo of manifold and exhaust then ?

+ downpipes.
Also a de-cat can add a nice noise to the car.

I've got a Mongoose exhaust on my 300ZX. Twin 3" pipes either side. Has a nice burble, not tooooo loud at motorway speeds and is nice n' shiny

If you want a reliable fitter, I use a chap in North Camp/Farnborough (near Magnum Motors if you know them). Excellent bloke and around £25/hour. He looks after all my Zed's needs.
