Just wondering as I have never had any decent service from main dealers.

The Supra has developed a rattle from the front of the engine (sounds like it could be a tappet).

Don't want to pay well over the odds at a main dealer if there is a specialist that can do it (and do a service at the same time).

Any ideas.

Thanks

Supraman, which part of Essex are you in. I use a very good indepentant mechanic, who while he isn't a Toyota specialist has worked on all my cars including the MR2 and the Leon Cupra and has always done a spot on job.

If you're anywhere in SW Essex I'm sure he'd be only to happy to have a look for you.

Might give them a try.

Took the supe down to Toyota, the receptionist was moaning saying she didn't know if anyone was available to come and listen to the car, as they only had two staff on, and some were off sick blah, blah, blah

Someone did come out though and had a listen,he thought it was the main bearings.

Took it to Leven's on the way through, who had a listen. Even though they don't do anything other than TVR they were really helpful. Toyota take note!!

Think it maybe main bearing now

A number of racers have had bad experiences with TDI. I have seem some examples of their 'tuning' work and been less than impressed. They have also given me some advice that I know to be 'less than optimal' in the past.

However, I haven't had recent experience of them and they may have improved considerably.

Went down this morning and they don't think it is main bearings.

Will be about £150-£200 to do an investigation, and around £3-4k if it is the main!!

Think we've found out what the problem is.

Tried to remove the top Front timing belt cover.

Got part of it removed.

The timing belt is a bit frayed on the edge (My mates Dad replaced it about 14k ago).

Looking further down the front of the engine, it looks like the oil pump pulley has come loose.

We can't get the lower part of the timing cover off without major work (removing pulleys etc).

Looks a bit more promising than Toyota's diagnosis!!
