I've driven STi's and Evo's and my experience is the EVO has a harsher ride. The only think with the STi, and this was a 2006 2.5L model is that it has an unusual bobbing up and down motion to it on the motorway which i thought would probably make me sick after a while but the EVO 260 i test drove was harsh in comparison, specially over small bumps and potholes. And yes, the prodrive upgrade makes a heap of difference to the STi, so much so that it then becomes a real pleasure to drive no matter how smooth or harsh the road gets.

However...i have never felt jarring in any STi i have driven, so that's a new one on me.

I have to agree that the STi is not jarring at all despite the firm suspension. It can get a bit bouncey if you unsettle the car with poorly timed braking. If you drive it as it was designed (smooth and quick) then the STi handles anything the British roads can throw at it. That's not to say the Evo can't, I've driven a few and they are very very quick. The only issues that I had was that the slightest imperfection in the road would have you wondering how many thousands of £ damage you'd done My other minor gripe was that the clutch on the IX I drove was pretty binary. It was either fully engaged or not. Great for quick changes (again very track focused) but not good for town driving. As I said before, I love the evo but as an only car that I put a fairly large number of miles on I couldn't really justify all the extra expense and discomfort to be able to boast that I can get to 60 0.4 of a second quicker

Quick tale of a pals EVO 8 (i think!) ownership....

Car cost about £30k, about half on credit, guessing around £500 per month over 3 years. M25 Motorway to work, £25 per day in fuel. £125 per week, £500 per month IN FUEL!!! Insurance £150 per month. Servicing expensive, tyres expensive, everything expensive. Costing him at least £1,300 per month. Then if he sells it after 3 years he will probobly lose the £15k deposit he put down on it. That Ferrari 355 mentioned earlier and a Diesel runaround for the motorway to work suddenly makes a lot of sense!!!!

Well at ~ £1 per litre and £25 a day @ 20mpg he's doing 110 miles per day commute, so no wonder it's costing him mega £££

26k per annum purely commuting in an Evo isn't going to be cheap

Service every 5k, or ever 45 working days, so about once every other month, or about five or six times a year...
