brakes are one of the best mods that you can make to a car imo. you can spend all the money you like making the car go faster, but what's the point if you can't slow down to get round a corner?
Couldn't agree more...very well said that man! I havent spent any money on power mods but have had the handling sorted. When out on a run with another Impreza in standard form my car was quicker, and i dont think it was my driving skills that made the difference!!
Power isnt always the way forward!
that's what's next for mine. handling setup by mocom and some decent stoppers. i've not really done anything to it since i've had it so i want to start (or stop ) properly.
have my eye on some alcon mono block calipers if i get them it's finding somewhere to machine me some brackets to get them to fit.

I'm sure the Brembo 4pots are very good but you're paying for the name as well and that comes at quite a price so.....for almost the same money you can have better braking non-brembo 6pots and 330mm big brake discs. Personally if you're going to go to all the trouble of a proper conversion then i would opt for the 6pot anchors.
I would however be interested in hearing your feedback on how the 330mm 4pots perform and differ to the standard OEM offering.
If you cannot wait for bigger wheels just get a set of high quality wheel spacers for now. They aren't huge money and could be a good interim fix. Some people say they put uneccessary stress on bearings etc...but i know lots of people that use the really good quality ones made specifically for Impreza's from special alloys, and have used them on the road and for competition use over long periods of time with no issues at all. They didn't want bigger wheels due to the fact they can upset the balance and handling of the car. Bigger wheels weigh more too. Spacers widen the track of the car therefore give you better handling, so it's all good i think.

i went for compbrake's latest 4 pot caliper with the carbon covering there's no way that the caliper will fit under 16's even with spacers i asked if they could make me a custom bracket and supply 295mm discs but it's the size of the caliper that's the problem. the guy said they've only got a couple of mm gap on 17's!I would however be interested in hearing your feedback on how the 330mm 4pots perform and differ to the standard OEM offering.

i am a bit unsure of spacers though. although as you say i have heard of people running good quality ones with no problem at all. i've run them in the past, just to give the car a wider stance and no other reason. always seemed to kill bearings though
i'll let you know how i get on. i've gone for a high performance road / track spec pad with braided racing quality brake lines and racing brake fluid. got a serious bedding in proceedure too. which finishes with a naughty speed to almost stop
