bounce I T L I V E D ! ! ! bounce

Owing absoultely no thanks to me the scooby completed the Ring trek and 11 laps of the Ring itself. It's now sat outside giving its' shiny black Nurburg Ring sticker a good airing.

I just can't believe how good that car is. Ok on track it suffers very very badly from vague turn-in but it just grips and grips. I blame the tyres for the turn in. Everyone that looked at them described them as "ditch-finders".

Turns out the gearbox is only good for an indicated 130mph flat out (reached a good few times - notably into Foxhole once and NEVER again). Guess it's the short ratio one?

I simply can't believe she made it. Admission: I made a fundamental mistake.

I checked the oil before I left for Cumbria on a slight slope and it shows up almost full. I then forgot all about it until after 7 laps of the Ring when I checked it again (THANKS FOR THE REMINDER RUSS!).

Empty. Nothing on the stick. Added a litre of castrol - same.

Ran into town for the worlds most urgent oil change. 40 Euros inc filter - well impressed. An awful lot more power at the top end when that was done. Can't believe I forgot to check it. To be honest the car just behaves so well I forgot that it needs maintenance.

While it was up in the air I took the chance to give it a good going over. The exhaust bangs on the rear diff but otherwise it seems A-ok. Definitely has had an engine rebuild, even after the 2,500miles I've put on it you can still see which bits are new and shiny.

I'm just elated that we all got back ok. It was very busy and there were loads of incidents. Probably best to start a new thread on the trip. This post is just to rejoice in the fact that the Scooby did it's job perfectly! bounce

I'm afraid I didn't get many pics this time, I'll post what I have in a min. Russ, any joy uploading the footage from that lap? smile

A bulletproof scooby with 146,000 miles indicated and no service history! smile

Russ brought some props so we had a bit of a joke before the first lap. smile

And guess what I overtook. smile

Better pics to follow tomorrow but I thought you'd like to see where the all-important Nurburg Ring sticker went... biggrin

There's also a text bit that I didn't want on the back of the car (I only want those in the know to know - if you see what I mean) so that ended up here.

Twenty European Centimes to anyone that can tell what I 'airbrushed' aside from the numberplate. smile

Probably airbrushed all the flies off the top of your bumper hehe

Under your bonnet looks pretty similar to mine barring the Intercooler on yours is at and angle and the airbox is different or non existent but apart from that not a lot.

I can't tell what was airbrushed....and it's late so please shoot me and put me out of my misery, tell me in desperation what you've airbrushed thumbup

Good pics BTW biggrin

Lol - nothing interesting mate! It was a throw-away comment, I just touched up the wiper blades as the paint has peeled off. Thought some of our eagle-eyed photoshop gurus might pick me up on it.

I just took my housemate for his first ride in the scooby. I was a bit disappointed myself. These tyres are hopeless in the wet. The front end was skating around like it was on ice, I could hardly corner at all.

Well...

I could hardly corner at all relative to normal Impreza cornering capability. There was still a steady stream of profanities, curses and prayers from the passenger seat. biggrin

thumbup Sounds like a fun trip smile Yeah tyres do make a big difference to turn-in. If they're not the same front-rear then try rotating them so the ditchfinders are on the back, should be a bit more entertaining hehe

Unusual for the gearbox to top out at 130 mph I would have thought, perhaps someones dropped an RA box into it at some stage(like when the engine was out being rebuilt)? STi-RAs supposedly top out at more like 150 mph but have a higher rev-limit than the WRX or WRX-RA so its possible.

The trip was amazing. Nothing like I thought it'd be, but far far more exciting/intense. NOT for the faint hearted....

The tyres are the same all round. I'll just have to kill them and put something decent on there. I've heard good things about the T1-Rs but my last set of T1-S weren't that impressive really. I'd like to try a set of Eagle F1s but the Ringmeisters were divided about those. The only tyre they universally agreed on were the sports Yokos and Kumos (much to my surprise).

Ben, I hadn't actually hit the rev limiter at 130, but it can't have had much to go, a few hundred if that. The needle was almost touching the red. Does seem like the short-stacked box. I read the standard one will be good for 145. There's no way mine would do that.

Does sound like the CR box - thats a very nice bonus to an already good car smile The STi-RA I almost bought had the sweetest gearshift I've ever experienced.

I struggle to downshift into 4th when I'm over 90mph but other than that it's all good. smile

Better picture of The Sticker...

I'm having withdrawl. Playing the game as a substitute is like a glass of milk to an alcoholic. Must do more trackdays!

I just read a Jeremy Clarkson quote;

"To those in bobble hats, a Subaru is a machine that comes out of the night and spits stones into your face"

Looks like you're taking that one literally! smile

I'd love to take the car off road. There was an overflow car park at the Ring which was basically a field. There's a couple of gravel paths round it.

My self-control has never been so stretched...

Hi Matt, long time no speak!

£400 for an FTO - bargin! The trip was great, surprised Russ hasn't been on here to talk over it yet. When are you looking to have the FTO ready? Make sure you stick some pics up.

Your old FTO is also off the road at the minute. Giles is having the air-con fixed but getting parts is proving tricky. He's considering a part-leather interior for it. Not sure why he wants to but each to their own...

Nice camera work. cool Very artistic.

I don't actually have any pics of the FTO. Have to take the pair of them somewhere photogenic some time soon.

MSN should have been sorted now - let me know if it hasn't worked.

You should try and get the GR ready for some of the trackdays Russ and I were discussing. We want to do Bedford as there's nothing to hit... nuts
