Just googled it, average salary is just under £2000 / month including bonus and overtime.

If you think the RX8 is a girls car then your ideal of a good chat up line must be to belt em round the head with a club and carry em off by their hair! It is a super car spoilt slightly only by its thirst for juice.

The only thing the RX8 needs is 50 more horsepower and more torque. The only thing Mazda refuses to bolt onto it is 50 more horsepower and more torque. New colours and fancy dampers and some foam - woo and indeed hoo. Why bother?
Damn straight. Quit fannying about and give us a supercharger.

Not surprisingly, Zebs has one wink Ha ha.

To be honest mate, the big clincher for me getting rid of mine was that I just never really trusted the vehicle after the first one expired at 600miles on the clock. And the new one suffered some of the TADTS rattles and the corrosion of the alloys after only 5000miles...

I said that it was an AMAZING car 25% of the time, but the other 75% of the time (in start/stop traffic for example) it was just really grabby in first. It was a skill not to kangaroo in traffic. The wife never liked driving it. Her comment was, "That car is only happy once you get past 60mph" - which is fair enough, but in the real world that's only a small amount of the time.

I changed it for a Golf GTI on the same day I had it in for it's first service. The Golf is a FANTASTIC car 75% of the time...but I miss that other 25%!! Ha ha.

Porsche 911 or BMW M5 E60 for me next, I think...

Oh and the 192 is a girls car - us real men go for the 230 with leather. wink

I'd say the average salary is equal to or higher than over here and they have a lot better standard of living, product variation and customer services etc.
The Japanese people I work with probably do have a higher standard of living but they have a FAR lower quality of life. They work about 70 hours a week!
I've literally just landed from Toyko this afternoon. Salaries are probably a touch higher than the uk. Cost of living appears to be lower (although not by much). I'm not sure what the tax rate is like however.

And they do work utterly stupid hours, but appear not to be very productive while doing it. I'd suggest it's more of a cultural thing than anything else.

I am soooo fed up with all these sexy special editions never leaving the island. Mugen RR, NISMO editions, etc...

I don't even get the point: There is a market for those cars over here in Europe, and yet they refuse to sell them over here.
I went to Tokyo few years ago -working at Nissan- and there were loads of cars (in the Nissan offices and on the streets) that we don't see here.
Even things like rip-offs of Morris Minors (don't ask..) and groovey modern looking sports jobbies.

Market forces Trenchie...why bother send to europe if they sell 'em all there?

BTW - I was working with a Gordie who worked there for a few years, speaks the lingo and was talking about taking a jap car to UK, so he would know how or who... if anyone is seriously thinking about it.

thecarconnection.com says:-
A limited-edition 40th Anniversary RX-8 arrives early in 2008. In a special gray exterior and red leather interior, the anniversary car will get unique 18-inch wheels, a retuned suspension, and special badges.

The 2008 RX-8 is priced from $26,435.

(Ignoring the re-vamped RX8)..the Cosmo Sport pic looks interesting from that angle. If that was a '67 car from Nippon then it didn't look too bad looks as good as some Brit cars of that era.

Just as an example, I believe the new JDM Civic Type R (the saloon version) retails at something around £12,500. Importers here seem to be charging almost twice that for a UK-registered example.

I'd estimate that once a model report becomes available to the public you'd be able to get on the road for about £18k if you were prepared to do the esva work yourself.

agree,

how peeved would you be as an rx8 owner knowing that the 323 has a 265bhp version with an engine that blows the pathetic 228 rotary away.

The only interesting thing here is the Cosmo sport!
Talk about character: Mazda wasn't copying anyone, unless you want to tal about Franco Scaglione's work... The thing's tiny, and light enough to make real use of its rotary 'zip' - imagine that with a modern engine.

I am sick of manufacturers putting big wheels and a "special Badge" on a car and calling it special. Limited run specials should be special! Not realy celebrating the rotart by leaving the engine how it is and putting big wheels on, How about a modified Rotary engine, or make it a duel or triple rotary to realy make it special and coveted. They won Le Mans for good sake how about using that, like the old MX5 with the Renown livery.

Mind you that Cosmo looks lovely, a bit Alfa like but if your gonna take cues from somewhere it may as well be Alfa. Any one know of a price for a tidy example?

The thing is, it took Mazda a LOT of work to get a reliable 2-rotor 230bhp version of the engine. There are guys who have blown engine after engine, trying to turbo charge it and I cannot even begin to imagine what the mpg is like when they have been successful. I was gettin 16mpg from my standard 230.

I suspect the reason there has been no 'more powerful' version, is that when you take all factors into account, Mazda cannot do it.

Fair point. The RX-8 still suffers from the FD RX-7's lingering reputation for poor engine longevity. A forced induction version which turned out to be fragile could do harm to sales of the standard car. Also, while the standard car has sold extremely well, it's possible that Mazda just can't justify the development costs of producing a reliable turbocharged engine which would only be sold in a low volume niche vehicle. It's clear from the sales of the the lower powered four-port versions of the engine that a fair chunk of RX-8 buyers don't care about having as much power as possible. While there are certainly plenty of 230 owners who would like some more power, the current car hits a sweet spot in terms of price, performance and running costs. A more expensive car with (even) bigger fuel bills and other running costs might put the total cost of ownership into (say) 335Ci territory.

I'd like some more power, but even better, I'd like to see some significant weight loss. If Mazda could do with the RX-8 what they've just done with the Mazda 2 and cut the weight by 10% it would be quicker and less thirsty.

I love my RX8 but a higher powered version would be nuts when it already returns 20mpg on a good day. That must be the main reason they cant give them away over here (0% deals etc) because overall I think its an excellent car. I wouldnt have one if I had to pay the petrol though.

The idea of weight loss would be a good idea and maybe they should have done that instead (club sport style).
