One thing we have to celebrate though, is that it is lighter than the previous model.
The Evo X is 140kg heavier than the IX.

It's an improvement, but it's still just a bit generic hatch for me. Then again, Imprezas have always split opinion, so it's maybe not a bad thing and in five years we'll all look back with fond memories when they launch the next incarnation... maybe.

The STI is actually growing on me, still wouldn't touch the normal one with a barge pole but I could say the same about the previous models. The rear lenses could do with being darker though, especially on that dark grey car.

Still looks like the design team are trapped in the early 90's...

I suppose the question is, are there any good looking cars in this sector?

Golf, no.
Focus, no.
Astra, no.
Leon, no.
Civic, no.

I'd take this Impreza over any of those models, but I don't think I'd have any of them by choice.
I've never really seen the Impreza as being part of that sector really - always seemed to occupy a sector above to me, with only the Evo for company.

This new Impreza's definitely jumped straight into hot-hatch territory though!

Oh why did they have to have those doors, they look like the 1 series coupe ones, all bent and melted.

Still don't think it looks as good as the new Leon Cupra...that thing is tasty in white.

when it was an sti i agree.. but not when it was just a turbo/wrx.

same with the new one - it is the cosworth to the s-gt's rs2000...

Exactly, At the end of the day it's about selling more units and this is exactly why they have created this new model. It's an amalgamation of boring hot hatches that should appeal to a broader consumer but I reckon with it's pedigree it's bound to be a success.

Focus RS + Lancia Delta Integrale sporn illicit love child....
How could you possibly bring the Integrale into the equation!?
Over a decade on, it still outshines ANY other hatch in terms of road presence, we all know it - Design purity, and the guts to back it up.

Garlick, you're deluded.
This 'Impreza' is a sad, sad POS of a car - a Daewoo in a Focus ST lookalike competition.
It came last, btw.

confused The Integrale is a bland square box with big flared arches on it. Yes, it looks more aggressive in an 80s kinda way, but thats what it is. Similar concept to this in fact, except where the Delta was a typical 80s square box the new Impreza is a typical 00s blob.

Looks to me like one of those cars where the front end was designed by one team and the back end was done by another. And it didn't even result in one good end here.

i really have thought the STI was not too bad. much better than the WRX. at least there will be more to define each model now.

I was really looking forward to the new Impreza WRX being launched, but the styling is a major missed opportunity, and I don't think I can overlook it.

The idea of a hatchback Impreza WRX without estate styling really appealed to me, but I don't think I can stretch to the STi, especially with having to justify using it for work.

Even if it was better looking, the review in this month's EVO wasn't that great - granted it wasn't a UK spec car.

Without the amazing performance and good looks, I've a feeling they're gonna struggle to ship as many of these. I'd like to be proved wrong though, but I won't be buying a WRX.

Good call, the best of a bad bunch! Why has a car with such good credentials always been so ugly... and IMHO so rubbish compared to the blue oval tongue out

Sacrilege! Hang that man! Integrale Evoluzione aesthetics rule - no argument. Proportions/tension/aggression is spot on - 'pugnacious' is the word. Now go away little man... Quicker.

Thank you. The real test (which the Integrales win EVERY SINGLE TIME) is driving down your average small-town high street.
Very few modern cars turn heads and command admiration the way an Integrale does, and despite bieng slower than a good few
WRC-flavoured hatches of today I'd still trade absolutely any of them for a straight Evoluzione...

Uninteresting design that is both bland and ugly.

Previous Scooby was ugly at the front yes, but it was a very well proportioned saloon and distinctive.
