After all my questions the other day about the mkIII supra and being so adament about getting one I thought I'd throw this question in to see what happens.

I was offered to view the above today as I was on the subject of old japs cars to a colleague but know next to nothing about them.

Anyone got the patience this evening to inform me?

Cheers guys (again)

I truely love the Starion!smile

My grandfather owned one for years and it was great. Very quick and handled well, reliable too considering it was getting on a bit. The bodywork can be an issue and parts are very difficult to come by and not cheap.

My grandfathers was off the road due to the welding that was required, i talked him into keeping it for me until i had bought a new house with space to park a spare car. I was going to turn it into a track car, possibly drift, but he got rid of it a month or so before i managed to find something, i was gutted to say the leastfrown

They are well worth a look!

no personal experience, but front engine RWD probably the similar to as mk3 Celica, and Nissan 200 although the 200 was more of a tourer, I think the Starion will be a bit sportier handling, but thats all relative cos of their age.

I suspect they go sideways quite easilly. Supra mk3 is more like a Nissan 300zx its a tourer luxo barge, I don't mean that in a bad way just that they are different beasts.

do your research on the owners club sites

I never had the pleasure of driving one, but i have been a pasenger in many high speed corners and it did feel stickier than anything else i had been in, although i didnt have much more than an XR2i and 924 to compare it to at the time.

I dont know how easy it is on the limit but my grandfather did spin it once so you can without a doubt get the tail out.

Also Clarkson bought one during a Topgear "what coupe can you buy for £1500 test" and the stig took it around the test track in the midlands, cant remember which, and it seemed to go well. Its worth trying to find a link to it and its shown regularly on DAVEwink

LSD as standard and quite a sporty setup for the era. As has been said, go for a 2.0 turbo, much better for parts, reliability and DIY servicing. They're quite big in Oz and have some following in America - although that's predominantly for the 2.6. The narroe body is a touch lighter but doesn't look anywhere near as cool.

I'm going to look at one tomorrow, 2.0 turbo, totally standard, wide body and white with them beautiful deep dish alloys that most of them have. Only has about 70k on the clock and it's a friend of a colleague so I'm pretty sure I won't be stiffed with a dud.

I'm quite excited now bouncedriving

good choice if you ask me, would favor it over the Supra, has more character.

I think parts will be your only problem, not that it wil be a big problem being jap!

Let us know about the one you are going to see!

I thought about that model but don't really know enough about the rotary engine to be confident buying one.

Too late anyway, I've bought a starion, collecting it in a few hours and will post some pics as soon as.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 4G63 Evo motor slots in reasonably easily if you find one with a blown engine...
