On the camera topic, you dont have to spend a fortune for a DSLR! I started with a Canon 20d which are still excellent cameras and can be bought for £100ish then add an 18-55mm lens or even a 50mm lens and you're looking at around £150-180. Doesn't hurt too much then to have it sitting around not being used
These pics were taken with my old 20d and I was a beginner myself so you can see it's very capable! I wouldn't hesitate to use one now as a backup or main camera tbh.
