Not guaranteed he'll be cheaper than Elephant or Confused, but they've done some good deals on high value German stuff I've insured recently.

i may well call elephant on this.... as when i did it through confused and actually listed it as an import (they have a yes no) then it jumped to £2.5k!!!
Quite confusing
That is the problem with mainstream companies, databases don't hold the info on imports. Best to try a specialist insurance company, will probs work out cheaper too.Quite confusing
Elephant was £2307.10 for me on a standard STI Type R, and I'm 21, so you shouldnt' be paying more then I would!

im 22 nearly 23 with 4years NCB so i thought 1423 was a bargain... im tempted to just take out the insurance but... trouble is it just gives them one more excuse to get out paying if i had an incident!
even 1800 isnt too bad on a P1 tbh!

They have a white Sti 5 type R for £6995 totally standard 59k miles....
tempted but its up north'like

Not really got any recomendations myself, but FWIW if I were spending £5k+ on a Jap import I'd probably be looking at importing it myself.
A good mate of mine used a company called Nikkyo, they sourced a car to his spec/price and by all accounts it was an easy and hassle free experience.
The main contact there is a guy called Toshi Muira, I've had him price up some cars for me in the past and he's always been very quick and friendly.

ETA: Only thing I suppose you need to factor in is the model report situation, not sure what the story is with Type Rs.

Very true
But even so - The P1 was very adjustable with the throttle and on *normal* tarmac UK roads you probably won't touch the DCCD
The 22b is quite tail happy with it set to the rear, so I tend to drive with it notched forwards a little unless I'm in full hooligan mode. (not sensible on most roads!)

I don't really know what the P1 is like as it was UK-only but have heard its nicely balanced for a 50:50 Sub. The tail happy comment sounds about right for a DCCD car. With the DCCD set to open, once the rears light up they behave pretty much as a RWD car until you regain traction. But even so - The P1 was very adjustable with the throttle and on *normal* tarmac UK roads you probably won't touch the DCCD

I don't have a DCCD Sub (yet) but I do plenty of driving on gravel so would lock it up a bit (wind forwards) to be quicker/safer in those situations, except for (as you say) hooligan mode . Also gets a fair bit of snow/ice round here in winter which could be a good time to fully lock the diff.
DONT BUY THE P1 THEY ALL GO BANG!!! OIL PICK UP PIPES BLOCK AND KILL THEM....HONEST I GAVE £17K FOR 1 18MONTHS AGO FSH 1 OWNER 4OK........THE LIST WENT ON 2K LATER BANG.....
