would a 2.0 2005 STI exhaust fit my 04 2.0 WRX ? I would be looking to replace from the down pipe back (mid pipe / rear exhaust pipe / and back box)

Do you know if it is an aftermarket stainless steel performance exhaust or just a bog standard STi system.

Best thing to do with a WRX is change the whole standard exhaust for a stainless steel decat uppipe, performance high flow cat(100 cell) downpipe, and a cat back system. Often much cheaper than the OEM system which strangles the cars performance and doesn't warble as much as you'd like. biggrin

it's just the standard STI system and I'm getting it for a decent price.

will it just bolt straight on?

long term I'll replace with a full stainless system smile

I have got a WRX myself and to be honest it's never crossed my mind to put another bog standard exhaust on it whether it be STi or otherwise. If i remember rightly the STi exhaust from the cat back is 2 bits, where as the WRX exhaust is 3 bits.

I have a 2004 workshop manual here let me check and i'll get back to you.

The Sti anf WRX systems are the same from CAT BAck. The only difference is the back box. the Second CAT and the Resonator section are all identical.

I dont know how much you are paying for this but i picked up a complete JDM STI Exhaust Headers Decat uppipe downpipe and the 3 rear sections for a tenner. They are not really worth any money second hand as no one wants them!

Nice one StevieB thumbup I was about to report back and say the same about the STi exhaust.

So the moral of this story is......get an aftermarket exhaust as there is no mileage in putting on another std system biggrin

I got mine with a view of porting the headers and the decat uppipe to remove the one from the MY04 WRX ( As there are 3 CATS)

But also comes in when i return the car to standard for when i sell up!

If cash is problem for a new aftermarket system, H&S do a good back box to get the burble back and on Scoobynet there is often groupbuys with good discounts and the backbox can be had for £170

Lads - thanks for the comments, I agree with what you're saying

Unfortunately I don't have cash just now to buy an aftermarket system so am looking for a quick fix. my rear cat is fookt and I thought if I got an STI system it would fix the problem till I get an aftermarket system.
I've got one lined up pretty cheap.....

Interesting pointers guys. Could anyone tell me this though... Does changing the back box on a 2.0 WRX (2004) to an after market system change the emissions output? I do not want to get stung on my MOT you see.

NO it doesn't.

On a WRX or STi you only need 1 CAT to get through emmissions testing!! All changing the backbox will do is make it sound nicer, hopefully, and maybe liberate a few extra gases more quickly which can only be a good thing.

Excellent news squire. Nice one. Is it snag to change these things yourself or is best letting a garage do it?

Easy to chenge it yourself, if you have a DIY mind. Just get a couple of spare Nuts bolts, and also some chemical gasket.. shouldnt take long really. But allow yourself an hour as getting the old bolts etc off will be a pain in the arse!

Nice one mate. Might give it a shot. Which means I'll stand staring at my car for an hour and give up.

Just make sure you ahev a couple of spare bolts.. and soak the bolts on the exhaust in WD40 or similar overnight should make things easier.. Plus a decent set of axle stands..
