I saw that as well, something's clearly wrong. Nuclear power station under the bonnet?

Don't get the point of replacing the panels with carbon - there will be minimal weight saving (if any - 2mm carbon panels may actually add weight over thin steel sheet), and it'll be a nightmare in a crash - possibly even dangerous. If say it rolled, rather than deform the carbon would shatter. The shards would do some serious damage. If the chassis was an optimised Carbon monocoque, with the laminate planned where the strength was need it would be great, but simply hanging carbon panels off a steel frame is just a pointless waste of money.

Is it just me that thinks this is actually quite silly?? Even on slicks its not going to be particularily tractable? Doesnt look like it was running any trick tyres before, so it must be slower than stock as surely the power just spins away?

So let me get this straight. 1350 hp and they put that much effort into saving 6.8kg? It'll use the same weight in fuel in a minute. Why bother?

10.2kg so far.

Plus doors, front wings and bonnet to go too.

Wow! Can't wait to see the final product!! Looking like a true racing car. You should enter it at Le Mans as a GT2, sure looks like it would meet the spec with all those modifications! tongue out

I was going to post some concerns about the honeycombless-carbon roof, lost structural rigitidy yadda yadda yadda....then I saw the roll cage smile It looks awesome, but I have to agree with what some others have said, I just don't see the point in replacing those panels with carbon. Making carbon doors, bonnet, boot lid and front wings definitely make sense. Anything that needs to be cut from the main shell, errr no.

However it looks like it's gonna be a mega car, albeit a bit on the scary side redface

Has the carbon not replaced the original panels - rather than stuck over the top?

Right, nice effort but!!!!

20kg's to be lost from the front slam panel, inner wing guards, Don't forget these cars run a front subframe, so front of inner guards can completely almost go. Another 20kgs to lose by removing the boot floor & fuel tank, 8 kgs per rear boot pocket.

Bare doors weigh about 55kg each, outer skin & bit of frame sub 25kg's rear boot will be about the same.

There's a twin wall fire wall up front too wink

If going mega cage then roof structure is triple skin on the frame work wink

Rear subframe bushes & bolts weigh 16-17 kg yikes

10kg to be lost by simply deleting superfluous bracketry from inside

My Z20 Soarer has gone from a 1650kg wet weight road car to 1130kg full on drift car, not a carbon panel in sight (yet)
