I love this! but it would look miles better with a gloss clearcoat rather than matte...

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product! Theres some exceptional work in those panels, its a credit to its builders.

I will say that this is a truly ugly car - I don't like the carbon one bit, it's not to my taste at all.

But - as a feat of engineering, it is brilliant.

I have to ask though - what has this cost?

The standard car is 1550kg dry. They've got it down to 1290kg with all fluids and a full tank of fuel. They are ripping out the rollcage and putting a lighter one in to get it down to 1250kg wet.

The front bumper arrived last night, no pictures yet. No mention of a fuel filler cap though.

The car should have been ready on 30th April.

The bodywork and fabrication for everything you see in the thread has cost $60,000 USD. I dread to think what they spent on the suspension as it's the same stuff they use in SuperGT in Japan.

Weight is still the standard 52/40% with bias to the front.
Is this being done as a "look what we can do" sort of project or will it be for some financial gain? (Sorry to ask, I'm just intrigued)

The costs of all the braided hosing etc alone would be mind boggling. My mate has certainly spent a ridiculous amount on his (which was also due to be finished around the end of April *cough 2007 cough* hehe)

I'm really not sure I'd rip out a comprehensive cage like that and weld in a lighter one though. I appreciate they want to hit a certain target but cages can save your life.

My computer's playing up today so only read pages 1,2 and this one. Did they honestly stick with UK spec brakes and EBC yellows? Thats a nigh on identical set up to my ST205 and I can cook them easy enough with some hard driving over country roads, never mind at track speeds with an extra 1000hp!

Wonder what that'll weigh in at with all the carbon panels?
1200kg iirc.
Still more than an RX-7.
But would you get a reliable thou out of an RX7?
No, but you wouldn't need it as its lighter. STANDARD Type-R (which is almost all of them) RX-7 is 1250kg, less than this thing with all the work.

You could then waste ridiculous amounts of money giving the RX-7 a carbon body and other weight saving stuff. Reckon you'd get it close to 1000kgs, as i know of one thats close to 1100 now with just different doors, boot and bonnet. You could then put a triple-rotor engine in and get 750bhp @ 1bar (more if you wanted it)....and then you could....

When you finished you'd have similar power to weight and it would be undriveable, as it would still be two wheel drive.

I applaud anyone modding cars but i do think its a little silly...still, his money.

My god that is awesome, I must resit the temptation to sell the ST and buy a Supra scratchchin. Whats the lag like on that turbo?

I would guess it's going to be a touch laggy with 1000bhp+ out of a 2.8 litre engine!

Standard Supra lump is 3.0

I havent specifically seen anything that says it has retained that capacity. There are numerous Supras running around with 3.4 engines.

Gaz, wouldnt diss EBC pads in the slightest. Reds and Yellows are damn good pads. Just really surprised at that power level and track intention he's retained the standard calipers and discs. Mate of mine (different one to the previously mentioned one) had a massive set of KAD calipers on his to handle the power it had (mid 600s iirc). Just seems mad spending all that cash on a project and then under specifying the brakes.

He's legally restricted due to the laws in the country he's building it in. Thou shalt not dick around with the brakes. Apparently....

they went to all that trouble and then ruined the whole thing with that stupid wing frown

Anyway, what daft country is it that allows you to go faster but not to have better brakes? I've heard some stupid things in my time but that takes the biscuit...

Will that not be insanely difficult to drive fast because of the (I assume quite monumental) turbo lag?
